With all of the Recent OF BiB, I thought I might join the party. I haven’t sampled from this bottle for a bit. I’m looking forward to the revisit.

Cheers

Just to follow up on my impromptu SBS.

If I were wanting to be "scientific" (I'm not),... then my previous post would have included these details

Nose:  KC18

Palate:  Baker's 13

Finish:  KC18

Yes I preferred the nose and finish of the KC18.  The finish on the KC18 is especially exquisite.  Elite, even.

But I drink whiskey.  The *taste* (i.e., "palate") is what matters most to me.  In this case, on this night, the Baker's 13 just *tastes* a little bit better.

Granted, the KC18 leaves a more lasting and pleasing note on the finish, well after the sip is complete.  Sometimes, that might be more important to me, ... but not on this night.

I just wanted to add these little details for any of my fellow bourbon nerds, lol 🤓

It is surprising and interesting to me how the KC18 isn’t over oaked.  When I’ve tasted the KC18, I was impressed. I think Beam has figured out the balance. Heaven Hill could take a lesson from Beam.

Cheers

For tonight, nice flavor, rich but with a bit too much ethanol. Probably me, not the whiskey.
OP,   IYKYK. 😄

Continuing with the draining of some sample bottles.  A bit of backstory here: In the past I'd take a sample of any 'special' (LE's, Private Pix, BTAC, Pappy, some extra-nice Bookers, OFBB, 4-R SmBLE, etc.) bottles I acquired.   Usually a couple ounces or so; occasionally a 4-ounce bottle.   It was my intention to compare more recent iterations of the brands (or similar ones from the same distillery) to these 'old' samples to see what if any changes had seeped in over time.   I did do a fair amount of that; but, in the last 5-or-6-years I haven't done much of it, not chasing those 'special' bottles any longer, therefore nothing to compare.   So I decided to just start drinking 'em!   Why not, right?

Anyway, I killed off a couple more yesterday.    ...2014 PVWFR 20-year & a 4-R private pick from 2012 OBSK (124-proof!).   Both were really nice (and VERY Different!) pours.

A bit sad that they're gone and cannot be replaced; but, they were always intended for drinking and enjoyment, and now they've fulfilled their destiny.

Slainte'

WLW in the glass.  We met with Orthopedic surgeon, not good.  Disks in three areas require fusion/screws.  Mid and lower back first, come back in 3-6 months for neck.
On a positive note , she got me fast-tracked into the leading spinal clinic in Nashville on Tuesday.

Surgery is imminent and soon.  The spinal cord is pinched in all three areas.  She was impressed but concerned that I was moving at all.
Now that the wife is done crying, it is time to relax.

Cheers all!

My prayers for you and your family.  🙏

It sounds like the doctors know what the issues are and have a plan.  That's good.

You just keep on keeping on.  And I'll have a pour of the good stuff later and toast your health.

Sorry to hear that.  Working in that field, I know what you’re going through.

Wishing you all the best with your treatments and recovery.

Celebrating successfully putting up a couple barrel stave shelves with some WT101 8YR.

If you knew how difficult it is to hang anything on the walls in this old house, you'd know why this is cause for celebration 😉
