Spent yesterday in eastern Texas, tried to hit a few stores and maybe get lucky on one of these but they all said it's only made it to Dallas/Houston/etc big cities so far.  I did score a Still Austin blue corn though so not a totally wasted trip.  Nice snag Joe!

Had to line up my tater bags. I was missing a black one (PVW23 anyone?) until @0895 reminded me that BGold comes in a black velvet bag. Regular B brown bags don't have the same texture. I guess I could throw a Crown Royal up there, too.

Here's a question for anyone at large... 🤔

What the heck is the real purpose for these little sweatsuits on some bottles?   Are the marketers afraid those "select" bottles will catch cold in transit, or sitting shelves awaiting the 'taters'?  😉🫡

Kidding... Sorta.  🫣

Simply put, packaging sells.

This applies to a lot of things in life.

In the case of the store pick bottles, it’s also a way for stores to pad raising the price a bit in a sneaky way, without quite as much criticism for gouging the customer.
Doing quick math on the yellow/brown ER, it comes out to $55 before tax.  Assuming $40 to be retail, they’ve padded the bill by $15 (x200 bottles) minus their cost of having the bags made.

So let’s conservatively say that they made approximately an extra $2K on the barrel, depending on how much the bags cost to make/buy.

The customers typically feel like they’re getting something extra for the money (a fancy bag), the store has padded the bill/increased its profit, and most likely very few people are upset at the end of the day.

Even though I know the game, I still went and got one.  Mostly just to hang out in the line and BS for a couple hours with some people. 🤷🏻‍♂️
