Don't know what you guys will think of me, but I just love Baily's (Irish cream whiskey) normally considered to be a ladies drink, I think that this stuff is fantastic, has a lovley creamy velvety texture, hint of the whiskey bite and is fantastic crashed over tonnes of ice. Great in coffee too.

Leslie and I enjoy Baily's in coffee quite often. It makes a great after dinner accompaniment to a nice creme brulee or souffle.

Bailey's is good on occasion. It's very sweet -- a bit too sweet for me most of the time. It's a good alternative to ice cream or other desserts if you've got a craving for sugar but want something to sip instead.

E&J's Cask & Cream is similarly good. They replace the whiskey with American brandy. It's substantially cheaper, too.

All in all, though, I'll usually take bourbon for dessert instead.

Try these shots for a real sweet alternative -

In a shot glass - ideally layered in this order...

QF - 1/3rd kahlua, midori melon liquor and baileys

Cowboy - 1/2 butterscotch schapps and baileys

Now these bring back memories of pubs/clubs in my late teens, early 20's. We used to drink these by the tray

I prefer Brogan's Irish Cream. It's made from Irish single malt whiskey unlike Bailey's. Bailey's has grain spirits added. When tasted side by side, it comes across as smoother, less cloying, with a more "elegant" finish that doesn't leave that same bitter end that Bailey's leaves in my mouth. It's named for an actual Irishman Pat Brogan.

Try an Irish Monkey with 1.5 oz Irish Cream and .5 oz Hampton's Banana Vodka. Shake and strain cocktail kinda drink.

Also quite nice for Sunday brunch is mixing in 1/2 cup Irish cream into a 8oz package of cream cheese with 1/2 cup 10x sugar. You stuff this mix into croissants and lightly toast. For extra decadance, mix 1cup 10x and 1/4 cup Irish cream and drizzle over rolls.

I did a similar side-by-side of Bailey's and St. Brendan's (which is about half the price) and the St. Brendan's won hands down. I'll try the Brogan's if I can find some!

You know, I don't think I've ever tried the St. Brendan's. I read a nice review of it in my old KINDRED SPIRITS book by Pacult. He rates it 3 stars where he only gives Bailey's 2. Brogan's is too young of a product, I guess, to have made it in this 1997 edition.

The storeowners where I work tried Bailey's and McCormick's side-by-side and couldn't tell which was which -- but both preferred the McCormick's. It's about a third cheaper, besides.
