Since Russel's Reserve and Kentucky Spirit are not available in my state, I picked up a bottle of Rare Breed this afternoon (I justified this to my wife because she had me pick her up a 1.5L bottle of Bailey's, and they were approximately the same price).

I'm about to crack it open - will let everyone know how it goes, but since this is my first bottle of any sort of Wild Turkey stock, and I am quite excited due to the great reputation that distillery has here, I wanted to let folks know.

No matter what happens with the Sox, I'll either be crying into my Rare Breed, or toasting them with it (along with a nice cigar). I figure either way, I get bourbon... so I'm happy. lol.gif

The Rare Breed is top notch IMO. I'm halfway through a bottle, and have the pleasure to compare it to the WT8yo (101). Definately a cut above in compexity, and not too much hotter in pure alcoholic power. I think it'll cheer you up should the sport result not go your way.

Don't feel too bad about lack of choice around your way. I found a store that does independant importing of Kentucky Spirit. Price was ludicrous. To give you a comparison, Rarte Breed costs $65AUS. They were selling KS for $399AUS. Personally, I'm not that curious to try it, despite the great reviews...

This was a Chamber's Cellar in Parramatta. Only seen it in that particular store, so praps the manager is a bourbon fiend. They did have the Kentucky Spirit with a wooden box and Jimmy Russell's signiture on the bottle so it probably drove the price up considerably, but the salesman said they had more out back...

BTW, What are your thoughts on the new imported stock? Is Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare worth importing?

For my mind the Trace is a great bourbon for the price, but as you can appreciate its all about the total end cost.

I am obssessed & my wife is very understanding, my latest haul in transport as we speak is 5 bottles of WT Tribute, 6 bottles Maple Hill 14,16 & 21 yr old( 2 of each), one more Trace, 2 of the 2004 Staggs, 2 more Spring Old Forester Birthday Bourbons & both versions of Distillers Masterpiece that may or may not ever be opened.

Plus one Salzerac Rye.

I am yet to open my Eagle Rare.

I was seriously considering getting a few (3-4) bottles in early next year, but clearly the duty is going to kill me. How is it evaluated?

I'd love to get Russel's reserve and Kentucky Spirit, along with some BT bottles, but I'm a bit of a pauper/uni student at the moment, and it's just not realistic.

Here is one example 1 bottle valued at Aus$99.32

customs$25.14

GST $16.69

Don't even ask me how they came to those figs

I have approx 22 bottles coming in, will see if the percentages per $ correlate with the ones above, will let you know when I get the customs bill. banghead.gifbanghead.gif

Is that including shipping? What was the bottle? What was the US price?

I figured the only way I'll ever get some over here is to specify the USPS shipping of 4-5 weeks. This week turnaround just isn't feasible.

Sorry to get off track everyone... Rare breed is tops.

Hope eveyone is doing well. First time posting here:

I was suprised the first time I tried WT Rare Breed. I figured it simply was an overstrength version of the basic house blend. I found it infinatly better when I watered it down to 40% and compared it to the basic stuff. Much more honeyed, and the flavours are focused better. Plus you can choose at what strength you want to have it (up to it's origional).

On the Distiller's Masterpieces, wouldn't it be cheaper just to have me pick them up here and fly me to Australia to deliver them rather than pay all that duty? I'm ready anytime you are. smilielol.gif

Whoa. This is the most... um... flavourful bourbon I've ever had. Now the question is - do I like the flavor? I can't honestly say. I'll have to try a few more pours, maybe diluting it down to 90 proof or so with some spring water.

I can say this - it's very different than any of the other bourbons I've tried so far.
