Actually the event is Monday Nov 8. I will be arriving in NY Sunday and returning home on Tuesday.

Thanks for that little pointer there. We had a blast with Jimmy the night before and at the Fest. So nice to see the good folks we got to hang out with during the Kentucky Festival. Parker gave a great little run through some fun whiskey including Georgia Moon and Mellow Corn during his seminar. Elmer was there. Jimmy razzle dazzled. Great time had by all, except that one guy puking his brains out into a trashcan at the end of the night.

Oh yeah, we sure did have fun on Sunday evening at LeNell's with Jimmy, then on Monday evening with Jimmy, Elmer, Julian, Parker, etc. Also seeing old friends and new friends was a real treat. Lots of wonderful taste treats to be had as well. Among the highlights was Bulleit and a number of Kulseveen products (Old St Nick) and I believe a 26 Year Old Willett's.

Had a great time at WhiskeyFest and hope everyone discovered a few memorable whiskies (maybe next year you will write down your tasting notes so that you don't forget everything the next day!). Anyway, we poured both bottles of Stagg and Sazerac Rye. I know a couple of people made it over to the charity table (Red Cross) to sample some rare whiskies for a cash donation. We had an interesting bourbon aged in a Frenck Oak cask. It received some nice reviews.

I believe our next show is in San Francisco on March 4-5, 2005. I hope to see more of you out on the west coast.

Hope all had a good time at NY WhiskyFest...we at the Heaven Hill table had a good time pouring and talking! We had EWSB 1994 (and a bottle of 1995 barrel #1, too!), plus EC 12 and 18 Year Old and Very Special Old Fitz 12 YO. As a real treat, we had a little bit of Very Very Old Fitzgerald 15 yo BIB with us (made in 1952, bottled in 1967) that was unbelievable. Shared it with some lucky friends and gave the rest to Julian (after all, his grandad made it!) It was some of the finest whiskey ever to cross human lips.

I noticed at the Philadelphia WhiskyFest two days later Julian still had the bit left!

BTW, anyone attend the first ever Philly WhiskyFest other than Ken and I? Thoughts??

How did that Old Fitzgerald taste, exactly? Would the current 15 year old Pappy compare?

Unique...hard to believe it was a wheated mashbill. Dark color, nice, not too remarkable grain/vanilla nose. But that taste--it explodes! Great oily mouthfeel...Nougat-ty, incredibly long and warm (that's especially what I mean about more like a rye Bourbon--it's got a long, rye-like finish). Terry Sullivan said it's like drinking a snickers bar, in the best possible way! Even Parker, who can be a bit cantankerous when I pull out these old bottles (especially ones he or his family didn't make!), thought this one was pretty damn good...

But the main thing about it...gone! It will get better and better in the minds of all who tried it though, and isn't that the beauty of it all (sniff!).
