Ok, I'm sure this comes up often. I read an old poll & thread on this subject and it got me wondering how often folks here imbibe. It's not unusual for me to go a day or two without a drink, and then I can have 2-3 good-sized pours in an evening. I guess this technically qualifies as binge-drinking, although I certainly don't see it that way.

So, how often do you drink bourbon, and how much do you typically have?

Usually daily, and usually 2 (occasionally 3) 1.5 oz (45 ml) drinks poured neat and sipped slowly.

Yeah, what Mike said. A couple of times a week I'll have a glass or two of wine with a meal -- either in addition to (usually a weekend) or instead of (weekday/night) the bourbon/rye.

Typically I enjoy 1 or 2 neat 30ml pours every 2nd night or so. When I'm not Martial Arts training, I'll enjoy a single pour prior to dinner most weeknights.

This is a habbit that has really only come about since I joined the straightbourbon.com forum and discovered the variety of bourbons available. It's still a novelty for me to open a different bottle that I haven't tried yet (and there are a few.)

Prior to discovering this site, I mostly drank Jim Beam White or Woodford Reserve with Coke on weekends, and usually in large amounts. drinking.gif

Woodford Reserve + coke? That's an expensive bourbon and coke. Not that I'm a huge fan of Woodford Reserve (I prefer Old Forester BIB), but still... ouch!

With my really weird working hours I only occasionally have a drink when I get home around 8am. But on the nights I don't work, I usually sit at my computer for a couple of hours with whatever bottle I choose to favor for the evening and pour small pours while I chat or play games or whatever until I'm done. No limits, I just know when I don't want anymore.

Lately the bottles of choice have been some I didn't particularly care for the first few pours and want to make myself appreciate. I started this trend with my first WR until it was gone and am now working on my bottle of Beam Black. In both cases, I have overcome my original dislikes and come to enjoy them. Next up: Johnny Drum 15yr.

Eventually I want to hit on one go-to and buy 1.75s to keep in my computer desk but for now, there's just too many to choose from. What a dilemna!

I always go out on the weekends and ill drink an assortment of whatever, usually including one bourbon or two. Then on the weekdays ill probably have a single pour maybe twice in those 5 days. occasionally ill have two pours but i try to limit it based on a lack of funds to buy more tongue.gif

Nightly...... after a long day of fixin furnaces.....

It's gettin cold here....

Actually I now have 24 bottles in my collection and every night we sit down and pull out 3 or 4 bottles and sip on a 1/4 shot of each..... Every night something different....with the exception of EC 18yo, having trouble not trying this one every night....

Variety is such a spice of life and the bourbon is the dessert...... toast.gif

Is the concern about cost, or alcohol consumption?

I figure if I can choose to pass it up on any given evening, which I have (hence the qualified "usually daily" in my post), and that I don't get drunk, then I probably don't have a problem.

There's a difference between an obsession and an addiction. It may be a fine line, but I continue to maintain that I am merely obsessed with bourbon (and rye)! grin.gif

Alcohol consumption.

There's been some pretty nasty goings on in my family, with booze and I'm wary of going the same way.

I don't get drunk (pretty much ever) but I do *love whisky* especially American whisky. I've got around 35 bottles of Bourbon and Rye on the go at the moment and just adore everything about it - from the history and packaging to the taste (of course !).

It would be sad if we couldn't enjoy something anymore (for health reasons) that had given us such great pleasure. That's the main reason I worry.

This might be the previous thread you were talking about, posted here as there were a couple of insightful comments posted that are worth reading.

First, I have to state firmly that I have no wish to express a flippant attitude towards alcohol and the damages it can cause.

At the same time I´ve gotten the impression that medical science more or less has confirmed that healthy amounts of alcohol is good for you. I immensely enjoy my small doses of whiskey - it adds tremendously to what we in Sweden call "Livskvalitet" (Life quality? Quality of life?)

About the same as you, except that three in one evening is a rare exception.

I've found that if I have my first drink of bourbon in the afternoon, it's easy (perhaps too easy) to end up having five or six by bedtime. Accordingly, I usually don't drink bourbon until late in the evening.

When I drink beer during the day, it's always easy to stop at one or, rarely, two.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

I agree with you 100%...My lifestyle dependents upon alcohol. How much folks "consume" is the very backbone to the financial stability of my family grin.gif.

Hey...right now...I am working alot of overtime...10 hours is mandatory right now (alot of times I have to stay longer for breakdowns and line changes)...Geezzzzzz...I am almost tempted to say "Ya'll slow down abit cause I sure in the hell don't want to do 12 hour shifts ! lol.giflol.giflol.gif But I ain't gonna do that...I kinda like the time and 1/2 pay...especially at Christmas grin.gif

May the "Spirit" of Holiday Cheer be with all of ya this year! grin.gif and if you are raising a glass with "our" product in it...I hope you think of me (and all of us at HH) while we are working thru these long hours...

I'll usually have a pour or two 4-5 nights a week. Almost never on Tues/Thurs, as on these days my workout regimen begins shortly after work and runs late. The small pours on other evenings are nursed over several hours and never led to anything beyond a mild buzz. I have no use for getting drunk.

I typically sample in rotation from whatever I have open, rarely pouring the same bottle more than once in a week. This keeps things interesting, but it also means that a bunch of bottles will be emptied out around the same time. A good excuse to go shopping!

Heaven Hill is one of the few distileries (outside the Jim Beam ones) that ship Downunder in bulk....

So this year I plan on introducing my bourbon loving Uncles & Cousins to the joy of Evan Williams SB and Elijah Craig 12yo (instead of the usual Jim Beam White) toast.gif

I hope that I can help contribute to the well being of you and your family and your co-workers. My one or two pours a night of premium or hard to find Bourbons has sure been an excellent adventure, I hope someone profits from it.
