I am interested in investing in a barrel of bourbon to be later bottled by the distillery. Does anyone know of a distillery that still does this? It was once popular with the scotch distilleries.

Also, when my wife & I visited Labrot & Graham a couple years ago our guide, Trish, pointed out that we could purchase our own full barrel for as little as $6,000. That would come out to about $29.95 per 750 ml bottle. That's for a full 53 gallons (they make up for the "angels' share"). Of course, if you wanted it to be truly single-barrel you'd have to accept the reduced amount in the barrel, which could be expected to yield around 37 to 40 gallons. I don't know what kind of price break they'd give for that. I got the impression she was talking about actual Labrot & Graham distillery product (the oldest of which is only four years now; none has been released to the public yet). I'm not sure what they'd sell the excellent currently available Woodford Reserve whiskey for.

By the way, my birthday is in early September, in case you might have been wondering...

I believe Julian Van Winkle, who monitors this board and participates from time to time, offers such a service. Buffalo Trace has as well for its Blanton's product. They even have a special tasting room for making your selection. Maker's Mark doesn't promote it, but I believe they will provide such a service as well. It is possible that any of the distilleries will, at least any that have a single barrel bottling line.

You're right Chuck!

Robert, give me a call if you're interested in a barrel of whiskey.
