Just picked up a bottle of the Four Roses Single Barrel. When did this product hit the shelves? It is quite nice I gotta say. Anybody else try it? Also picked up 3 different Van Winkles. The 13yr Rye is great.

That Four Roses single barrel is apparently fairly new. Not seen in these parts yet, if ever. (But that's another issue.) The 13 yr VW rye is awesome.I love the snap of a good rye. Too bad it receives such a bad rap, outside of these circles anyway. Which other VW's did you get? Chances are you'll like 'em all.

I also got the Van Winkle 12yr "Lot B". It's real nice. A little smoother than I like in a bourbon. I like it to bit a little. This was a "special selection" for Liquor Barn in KY. Don't know if it's very different from the standard release. And also the 107 proof 10yr. For the price of the 10y 107p, I don't think I will ever be without a bottle of it on my shelf again. I am now up to 75 different selections in bourbon. I never get bored. I also got a 100 proof BIB Ancient Age. Very smooth for a cheap 100 proof. Pretty uneventfull on the finish though. Nice flavor profile. Nothing to write home about.

The Four Roses Single Barrel was released last summer/fall. I tasted it at the Gazebo during the Bourbon Festival, but have yet to see it on a shelf in TN.

My understanding is the Four Roses Single Barrel will be available only in Kentucky,Europe, and Asia. I've made three trips to Ky since Bourbon fest, to replentish my supply. Its likly the closest thing to my everyday pour. yum.gif

Nice fruity whisky, with a bit of peppery rye bite, but it wont be cracking my top ten. Not one to sweat about missing IMHO.

How about a short list of those in your opinion that I should "sweat about missing"...

I think I may have found one of the "old" stash of FRSB. The bottling is 86 proof, comes in a plainer bottle (no embossed roses, dark green front and back label, location "Cox's Creek, Kentucky", no statement of proof, only alc%, silver cork topper, "Barrel No. L71921").

The dark green box has a two-paragraph blurb on the back:

"Four Roses Distillery was founded as a family business and it is still run ike one. In over 100 years [so the bottle is newer that 1988], we have never cut a corner. This year we are inviting you to try an old family tradition. We have always set aside the very best barrels of each distillation, leaving each one to to age at its own pace. Then we bottle each barrel separately--unmixed, unblended.

"This is the first Four Roses Single-Barrel Bourbon we have ever offered to anyone outside the family. We have even put the Bourbon in a very special bottle. What is inside the bottle is also special--a rich, mellow, honey-smooth sour mash Bourbon like you have never tasted, unless you have been our guest on Derby Day."

EDIT: The label is not the same as the current label listed on www.fourroses.us. Also, the label states "Distilled & Aged by Four Roses Distilling Co."; the current Kirin trade name is "Four Roses Distillery LLC."

EDITED AGAIN: Oops, not a very good searching job by me.

Any ideas?
