derrboy
I just had a few pours of wild turkey and was wondering if anyone out there really enjoys drinking wild turkey (I know that because it's a bourbon everyone here would drink it) but what I mean is does anyone consider this one of their favorite pours? The last two bourbons that I've tasted and really enjoyed have been the wild turkey 80 proof and 10yr Weisers. (even though Weisers is not really a bourbon but a blended whiskey but you get the idea)This is my first post and I'm looking forward to posting more. happy drinking! derr-doodle
jeff
Wild Turkey 80 proof was one of my "teeth-cutting" bourbons. It is full of flavor and relatively easy to drink. That and Maker's Mark took me the first mile or so on my journey to Bourbonia. But don't stop with the 80 proof, because it only gets better from here. The standard 101 proof bottling is a bit more full-bodied and contains some older bourbon. Russell's Reserve appeals to a lot of drinkers for both price and quality and Rare Breed packs a punch, typically at 108proof or so. But the grandaddy of them all is Kentucky Spirit. Full-bodied yet smooth with lots of sweet vanilla and caramel My mouth is watering just thinking about it and it's 6:30am You really can't go wrong with any of the Wild Turkey lineup. mobourbon
You really can't go wrong with any of the Wild Turkey lineup. I agree, Jeff! I've never had the WT 80. I've had the rest. The 101 is great for an everyday pour. Full bodied and great taste! Russels Reserve is just fantastic! Like you said, the entire lineup is great. sharkman
First, welcome to SB.com. You'll love this place and the members are the best. No crap goes on here. I love it. Second, ALL Wild Turkey rocks! The 80 proof is a great everyday pour and great as a mixer. After that, 101, Russelll's Reserve, 12 Year, Rare Breed, and Kentucky Spirit, NEAT is the word (or water/ice if you prefer.) It would be a "sin" to use them with a mixer. Maybe for the occasional Manhatten. Wild Turkey is one of the more sweet whiskies and has a great vanilla/oak profile. I started as a Jim Beam White label fan and now I can hardly drink the stuff neat. The Black Label however is a different story. As for the small batch stuff. I go thru the Wild Turkey (all bottlings including the Rye which is WONDERFUL stuff) the most. I don't really think there is a member on this forum that doesn't like one or more of the WT bottlings. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Barry
ratcheer
Yes, I have recently (last two months or so) decided to make WT-101 my "everyday pour". It is good enough that I always enjoy it and inexpensive enough that I can always afford it.Elijah Craig 12-year old is even a little less expensive and its also one of my favorites, but sometimes I have to work a little harder to enjoy it.Tim

wrbriggs
Wild Turkey 101 is good, but not my favorite - at the price point, there are other whiskies I like better, but I'll definitely drink it. Russell's Reserve, however, is one of my very absolute favorites.
brian12069
What do you like about it, Brian? What do you dislike?Gary It's not bad but when I first taste it I get an "odd" flavor that I don't get from any other bourbon. However...I'm still sipping this second glass and it is getting better...lol...still not one of my top picks but enjoyable.
Gillman
There is a unique flavor in 101, I can't put my finger on it, but know what you mean. Maybe it is an intense woody quality.Gary
Nightcap
... but what I mean is does anyone consider this one of their favorite pours? Wild Turkey 101 has gotten plenty of good press on this board, and not a little from me. I am an unabashed Wild Turkey enthusiast: WT 101 is my default bourbon. It always satisfies. Maybe it is an intense woody quality.I know precisely the "unique flavor" you're talking about but have never been able to describe it well. Unfortunately, it's THAT very flavor that turns me away from WT products...it seems to be in all of them. I've heard it called it an "earthy finish", but I don't think that totally encompasses the turnoff for me.
lakegz
I love Wild Turkey but im apprehensive to order it in bars because a few times ive gotten some wacke dout flavors from it. ive gotten some that tasted like someone spilled lemon juice in it, very gross. at home though, i absolutely love it! ratcheer
Yes, I had a discussion thread here a couple of years ago where I had taken a WT 80 at a country club party because it was the only bourbon they had. It was awful. At the time, I ascribed it to be the fact that it was the 80 proof bottling, but I have decided over months of thought that maybe the country club staff had put something else in the bottle. It was a high class country club, but I still wonder.Tim
