Just to let the members that live near Boston know, there are 2 liquor stores in Cambridge, on Mass Street that have 2 bottles of ER 17 2002 version. So if you want some, head on over to where the smart people hang out.

If they're so smart, why are there still 2002 Eagle Rare bottles there?

Tim, surely the proportion of smart Americans (whether whiskey fans or no) must be higher in Cambridge, Mass. than many other parts of America since that is the base (I believe) of Harvard Univeristy. Then too, being smart and having a deep purse are not necessarily co-extensive. smile.gif

That presumes that the people at Harvard are smarter than the rest of us. I know they think they are, but that's based on their criteria.

Don't forget about MIT, and from what I could see, a good portion of the student aged population, were not Americans.

This is so tantalyzing, yet frustrating. AFAIK, I've been in every liquor store on "Mass Street" between the Charles River and Arlington, and there wasn't anything worth mentioning as of 4-5 months ago. MIT has very few liquor stores near them - a few Brazilian stores on Cambridge St., but they have little need for bourbon. In Central Sq. you have a few old stores, but they're pretty barren. There's a bit of overpriced Jefferson's Reserve at University Wines north of Harvard, but really almost nothing to speak of beyond the standard Jack, Jim and some other misc. junk.

One store close to Rt. 16 near Arlington had an overpriced ORVW10, but that's it, AFAIK!

Are you're sure you're on the right street??!!

Cheers,

Yes, If you are coming from "MIT Kendall" T station, I think the two stores are right before you get to the "Central" T station. One on each side of the street. The one on the left had 2 bottles of ER single barrel and 2 ER 17s, and the one on the right had 2 ER 17s. Maybe they actually sell them fast(wouldn't think so because the ones at one store were 2002's) and they don't get them often, I don't know. But they were there. I think the addresses were close to the 600 range. The store on the right actually had a decent selection, such as Hancocks, ER17, Blantons, Bookers(I think), Knob Creek, and a few others.

Well, I finally was able to get to these stores yesterday, and one of them, Supreme Liquors, happened to have some pretty unusual stuff, but no ER17. I purchased a spring '05 Stagg and a 2004 Sazerac for slightly too much money, but not outrageously so. I left behind another two Saz'04 and a few ER10SB. It's _very_ rare to see any Stagg at all in MA, so that was a nice thing.

As for the store across the street, Libby's Liquors, it's pretty barren and extremely overpriced. A 750 of EC12 had a $39.95 price tag on it and I nearly choked! They do have Vya vermouth, but at $19.95 a bottle, I can take a pass. There's really nothing there to speak of, very few BT products of any sort, so if it was there, it's gone now!

I guess this shows that it's worth revisiting stores every so often - you never know what'll turn up!

Thanks again,

Neither one had the ER 17 left? It was sitting right beside the Sazerac at Supreme, and they didn't have any Stagg when I was there. It was only 2 bottles of each, so I guess someone got to them before you. Glad you found some Stagg though!!

Yeah, gone when I got there. I specifically asked the guy behind the counter and described the bottle with its blue closure, and he said there was none. There's a tiny chance that it's hidden behind some other stuff, wrapped in that pretty tissue paper, but I think those bottles were ER10SB or Sazerac. I guess I'll have to check again - ER17 2002 is mighty fine bourbon!!!

Their Sazerac price is the lowest I know of for an off the shelf bottle in New England right now though - $45. You can get a 2003 for more money in Newton, but I don't want it that badly.

Thanks for the tip again though - that store was pretty barren last December or so, and I hadn't bothered to stop in recently.

Take care,
