ratcheer
Why don't you try Wild Turkey Russell's Reserve 10-year old 101-proof? Oh, um, never mind. Tim

barturtle
yeah, I'll miss that one as well, but I do manage to have a couple bottles in the bunker...caught that one right before derby Any other suggestions for a new house pour?
Edward_call_me_Ed
It is about ten bucks more a bottle here than the Eagle Rare 101, but the obvious replacement for the 101 is the Eagle Rare 10 year old Single Barrel. The SB is lower proof, 90 compared to 101. But I think it is better bourbon for all that. Is it Ten Bucks better? Tough call. The 101 is better value, bang for buck. The 101 is still on the shelves here in Japan so I will be buying as much as my whiskey budget will allow. Ed

Ed, IMHO bourbon never gets better when they lower the proof. It only gets more watered down, and usually more expensive as a result. Joe
Edward_call_me_Ed
I agree. And yet, when I tried the two side by side the other day, I felt that the SB was the more flavorful of the two. Not by a wide margin, true, but noticeable. I did miss the 5.5 % of alcohol. I can only infer that I like the barrel selection for the SB and that and that the best barrels were 'watered down' by less good barrels in the 101. But, like I said, the difference was not that large and taking price into account, I prefer the 101. My two cents. And my opinion is subject to change with further research.Ed
barturtle
I, too, like the ERSB but it's a little out of the price range I need for a house pour, you know the stuff you can drink every day, yet still let your whiskey and Coke drinking friend have a couple without flinching.I'm currently looking to retry the VOB products as well as HH 10yr BIB, though much lower in the price range I vaguely remeber these being good whiskeys, though I haven't had either in 5 years or so. luv2hunt
Try the smaller liquor stores versus the big stores. I just did a drive through TN and KY....lots of it still on the shelves of stores in TN. I know I saw a few bottles in KY, but can't remember where. (I hit small towns off Hwy 65)Good luck.....it's still out there....don't give up! Dawn
barturtle
Thanks, I won't give up just yet, besides in my hunt so far I stumbled across a George T Stagg , so even without the Eagle Rare I haven't done too badly Timothy
