Mine says distilled and bottled by Bardstown Creek Distilling Company.

ttbonline.gov search says Peter Jake Private Keep label application was 08/25/1998 to DSP-KY-78 who also make Mitchers, Old Pogue, Jefferson and Black Maple Hill. I believe these are all done by Even Kulsveen. But feel free to correct me.

This is another Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (the Kulsveens) bottling, and DSP-KY-78 was the old Willetts Distillery (Even married a Willett daughter) -- and may be again when their new still is installed.

Oh, good. I hoped I was correct, in this, not being able to find that distillery number in Sam Cecil's book.

Also I had not heard anything about them actually putting in a new still there. I look foward to trying the distillate from a new still(though I'll have to wait for 10-15 years for a well aged product). I hope he distills multiple mashbills and blends them (I assume that he's blending different whiskies now based on the wording of the Corner Creek label which mentions corn, wheat and rye). Anyway if that's what he's doing, I think he should stick to that strength, it really seems to be working, as I really enjoy his whiskies.

Corner Creek is not Willett's/Kulsveen, it is a product developed and distributed by a gentleman called Ted Kraut - I believe I have the name right - based in Florida. But surely you are right that the Kulsveens have been sourcing and in some cases mingling bourbons from (I would think) Heaven Hill and maybe others since the time the original Willett's stocks ran out. That is, if they did - this has never been conclusively shown - I think some of the current oldest-age KBD bottles might contain Willett' stock. Maybe it was bottled a long time ago and released more recently, Kentucky Vintage XO may be one of these. Corner Creek is good and as known I like the idea to mingle whiskeys to get a good balance of tastes. In recent years Corner Creek seems older in palate to me, I wonder if the (again, presumed) mingling was casked and is gaining further complexity in barrel. Speaking of Willett's and its plans I believe they now bottle whiskey for the people who own the revived Michter's brands. Of those, I have only tasted the regular-aged straight rye whiskey. This is single barrel so the palate may vary but the bottle I have now is absolutely superb. It tastes somewhat like Pikesville Rye but older and with more finesse. I am sure Heaven Hill distilled it although maybe it was aged at Willett's for all or a period of its life. Anyway, it is a winner: rich, soft, amazingly balanced for a whiskey as assertive as a rye whiskey. It has a butterscotch ice cream-like taste, is how I'd put it, like a Rocky Road ice cream with a touch of ginger in it - an ice cream for adults, that is. It will be interesting to see if Buffalo Trace's forthcoming 6 year old rye will be as good.

True enough, but the Kulsveens bottle it, in much the same manner that they don't own Black Maple Hill, but bottle it for CVI Brands in California. That's true for a number of KBD bottlings.

Good point, Tim, but in this particular case I believe Ted Kraut has real input in the design of the whiskey. This is based on interviews I've read of him.

So who "picks the whiskey", CVI or the Kulsveens?

DSPY 78 is the current operating numbers for KBD; the old "Willett's Distillery" number was DSP KY 43. IIRC in a recent visit to the distillery, Drew had mentioned the new distillations would probably be done under DSP KY 78. (Something about there was a desire to use the old 43 number, but the paperwork involved in getting things started again was tremendous)

BTW, on the chat last Sunday evening, it was mentioned that the new column still was being bolted together this week. Just like the last Willets' still, this one is stainless steel, only this time, there is a new custom copper section added at the top.
