mobourbon
I bought a bottle of Baker's bourbon today in West Virginia. It has a paper strip seal over the cap. It does not have a wax seal. It's 7 years old, 107 proof. It has an older label. On the bottom of the back label it has written: Bottled and distilled by James B. Beam Distilling Co. It has a batch no. of B-85-001. Does anybody have an idea how old this bottle might be? Thanks for any help I might get.
bobbyc
Hold on to it Fred, It will take a bit of doing to find out exactly, but that might be from the first batch. At this point regardless if it was first or not, the older label is desirable to have
musher
This prompted me to look at my two bottles of Bakers. Both were bought at least six months apart, which leads me to think that these small-batch bourbons must be bottled in really big batches.
mobourbon
Thanks for the info, Bobby. I knew I found something special. That was the last bottle like that. All the bottles behind it were the cuurent labels.
dgonano
Fred, Those are the old brown and tan labels from at least 4 years ago. I picked one up about 2 yrs ago in Montgomery County, Md. Mine has the same batch # B-85-

bobbyc
Mine is that same batch too. I read once that they mingle 100 to 150 barrels for a "Small Batch" of Bookers. Baker signed mine in 6-2000,Bring yours with you Fred, we'll see if he will sign it for you as well.

ProofPositive
Bring yours with you Fred, we'll see if he will sign it for you as well. I'll do that, Bobby. Thank you! Did anyone ever find out the age of the early bottle of Baker's? Last night, I went to a recently reopened store figuring they might have old stock. Sure enough, I found a Baker's and an early year 2000 bottle of WT-KS while rooting around in the shelves. The place is packed with boxes all over the floor and shelves with misplaced stock everywhere. Lot of work to do there....by the new owners and me! My Baker's is same lot/batch as the ones described in this thread. Maybe an early and fairly large one? The only bottle of the SBC I have ever tried was Knob Creek. Baker's always sounded good but I just never tried it. I must say though that the older bottle is what attracted me. Wayne
BourbonJoe
It has a batch no. of B-85-001. Does anybody have an idea how old this bottle might be? Fred, Based on the batch number, I'd guess it was from 1985. Joe

There was no final answer in this thread that I could find to the original question. Wayne
