Ezra B. 12yr SB

I just picked up a bottle of Ezra B. 12yr. old Single Barrel. I've not seen anything on it. Although I will crack it open tonight, I would like to hear some of the Straight Bourbonites thoughts. Mine is barrel 195, bottled 11/04, The bottle looks the same as the 15 y.o.BTW, it was $27.00.

I've yet to hear a good thing about it. Haven't had it -- I can still find the occasional 15yo (saw one today, in fact).

I have had it. I didn't like it at all. I've only had about two bourbons I really didn't like and this is one of them.

Some of the guys in our bourbon tasting group like it. I'm kinda' neutral but don't dislike it. The old 15 year 101 was much better.

The 15 y.o. was a wonderful bourbon, and if you see a bottle on the shelf you should buy it without hesitation. The 12 y.o., by comparison, is not very good at all...harsh and rather medicinal tasting, in my opinion. The difference between the two is like night and day.

I've had a bottle or two and liked it very well. It's not as interesting as the 15 year was, but for the price I thought it was a good mid-grade bourbon.

Well, last night I enjoyed 2 glasses. That's right, I really enjoyed them. From the disparity of reviews, I wonder if the barrels make that big of difference. And if the barrels make that big of difference, how are subjective reviews done? When I read everyones' thoughts, it's like I'm am reading about two different bourbons. Robbyvirus, I've had medicinal (Old Forester 100 proof) but Ezra B. 12 year was sweet, caramelly, and had no alchohol burn; although it did have a mild toungue sting, lighter than OGD 114. I also realize you can't judge a book by it's cover, but the bottle was quite attractive. So barrel #195 I can recommend highly, and at $26.00 I feel it's of good value. I will definately be on the look out for the 15 yr, but as it is, this is the only bottle I've seen. I hope to see more opinions on this one as it's interesting to view the huge differences. Tim, I hope you seek it out, at least by the glass. And Joe, I like the idea of a bourbon tasting group. I'm sure it's a blast being able to talk bourbon while in a group, because of all the differing opinions. In Colorado, scotch and vodka still dominate.

Ezra is my Daddy! i love the stuff, but like other post Ezra Brooks 101 15 year old rules. i got some in my stash, that i bought 20 years ago. so thats pushing 35 in age. Ezra Brooks 90 proof is still my mixing fav, with ginger ale. enjoy.

If you're refering to the "Old Ezra 15 y/o sippin whiskey", I agree. I also love the stuff. How much do you have in your stash? I'm down to my last few sips. Too bad. Another great one leaves us.

Nah -- it's still 15yo bourbon. Since the barrel is an integral part of the aging process, once it's removed and bottled, aging stops. You have a 35yo bottling of a 15yo bourbon; although, if you bought it 20 years ago, I think you're talking about a different animal. This is 'Ezra B 15yo Single Barrel', and is 99 proof and of more recent vintage.

Years ago, there was a "Old Ezra 15 Year Old Sippin Whiskey" that was 101 proof and came in a rustic wooden box with leather hinges. Haven't seen it in at least 15 years. This was super stuff.

I have trouble with secondary market single barrel bourbons. How do they even know what they're getting? Last two bottles were very Heaven Hill-Like, (Think EC18 crossed with bottom shelf). I'm spoiled because I want to compare it to the 15. I never really tasted it without that preconception.

I have a few 15's bunkered, so I won't be buying 12 anytime soon.

2 bottles, in crate, cork untouched. got some new ezra brooks 101 15year old in Nashville, TN. at Frugal Mcdougal's last november along with the single barrel. just a few shots of that left. Time for a road trip. Alabama ABC stores are weak in selection

Well, ain't I red-faced !? How'd I miss those? (I'll tell you how -- Frugal McDoogal's is high-volume, low-price, and doesn't usually have any old, rare stuff. So, I don't stop there often, unless price is a factor.)

And, despite being 'new' bottles, it IS old stock -- David Sherman Corp., which has owned the Ezra Brooks, Ezra B labels for some time, lists only the 7- and 12-yos at 101 proof (only the 7yo sold domestically).
