OneCubeOnly
Despite the warnings I had been given about Jim Beam's tour being disappointing, I checked it out on Thursday of the Festival. It turns out they were unveiling the new statue of Booker that day!
mobourbon
thanks for posting the picture, Gary. I was there for the entire ceremony. Everyone received a glass with Booker's Bourbon in it for a toast and a small white bag with a mini of Booker's and a typed note signed by Fred Noe about his father and the bourbon. Fred's toast was only two words but he broke down saying them. I have seen Fred twice in two years, but he recognized me as soon as he saw me. It seems that everyone involved in the distilleries in KY is like that. Just real downhome folks.
cowdery
Is it a statue or did they just have Booker's body bronzed?
bobbyc
I didn't walk over to it but it looks to be a little bigger than life size, but then how big would it really have to be to be that?
LeNell
Wow! I can't wait to see this in person. I've been a bit slow lately keeping up with everything on the board so I just saw this pic. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him in person, but I sure feel like I did from all the wonderful stories I've heard of him.
bluesbassdad
I never got to meet him in person, but I sure feel like I did from all the wonderful stories I've heard of him. One can enhance that feeling by viewing Chuck's video/DVD, "Made and Bottled in Kentucky". The interview with Booker evokes memories of good ol' boys I would hear talking at the barber shop and the coffee shop in my home town in southern Illinois back in the 1950's. ("Didja kill any quail out at the Briscoe farm this morning, Ivan?" "Yeah, got a purty good mess by workin' the fence rows. Would've gotten a few more, but I seen the game warden makin' the rounds just as we [he and his bird dog -- that makes it "we" in those parts] was a'getting started.")Yours truly,Dave Morefield
