Well, yep, that's higher than they've been, but I'm figuring the new bottling is going to approach $225 around here, which is almost $250 after sales tax. So, still probably prospective future eBay fodder for somebody (else! Having just finally emptied my two bottles with Cliff and Randy, the Lawrenceburg bottling might tempt me, but not the original Frankfort).

I believe those to be the same two bottles that you were kind enough to offer a pour for me and "Fricky" during a stint in Nashville. That sure was some tasty yum.gif stuff.

Pappy 23 just hit the shelves in New Jersey. It's $210.00 per bottle. Just thought y'all would like to know.

The bottle I bought today in Louisville, KY was the same price. This store only received 3 bottles.

I understand that the bottles are numbered. Does anybody know how many bottles were produced?

There is some YeahHoo selling the new Pappy 23 on ebay for a $400 starting price and a $1000 buy it now. But its not no ordinary bottle....but signed by BT's Master Distiller.....a guy who likely had nothing to do with this whiskey. laugh.gif

At the Buy It Now price he throws in Sally's book on the SW history. I'm still shaking my head. Ebay just looks the other way on these things.

I was able to snag a couple bottles both were one penny shy of $200 from different liquor stores here in Louisville KY. The first bottle had an A380 number and the other was A1560. I am very happy but the wife is sure I have lost my mind along with a nice chunck of change. I'll have to agree with her on the $$. Between this release and the Antique Collection I have dropped a considerable amount of coin on whisky. I must start cutting back on my purchases.

Cheers!

I know what you mean I've done some quick and rough math and don't wanna talk about it. I promised myself that once the new Saz Jr. is out(and I pick up some bottles that people are holding for me) I can buy no more whiskey until next years' Antique release cry.gif.

Of course with a total of well over 100 bottles it's not like I'll be suffering. lol.gif

I feel what has just occured is worthy of my first post on the board....

In the last year, I've converted one of my close friends here in MD into a pretty impressive bourbon aficionado. I'll bring him a fresh bottle every time I make a trip home to KY, and he's developed (rightly so) a rather humongous crush on the VanWinkle line. When I told him about the upcoming 23 year old bottling (back around halloween) he started saving his pennies, and yesterday, he called the distillary to find out how much had been shipped to MD and where he might find a bottle. I, on the other hand, had long ago convinced myself that I couldn't afford it, even if I could find it (it's a defense mechanism I've developed after years of being slow at the post on fancy releases such as this).

Long story short, he just send me an e-mail that tomorrow night after dinner, we'll be drinking ORVW 23 at the mind bending-ly low price of $158.99 a bottle! Even better news is that he was able to get 6 bottles! I suppose the markup he gives me will be the true test of our friendship wink.gif

Merry christmas, indeed....

Welcome to the board, and congratulations on having a rich and generous friend. 6 bottles at the price you quote is still a, a, well it is a lot of money. Probably worth it though, I still remember my first pour of Pappy 23, it was a marvelous experience.

We bottled about 1/2 of the 23-year barrels last week, which amounted to about 1,400 bottles. We will bottle the rest of the 23-year old barrels next month. This year's bottling can be indentified by an "A" followed by a number on the labels. Any labels without an "A" will be from a previous bottling.

Thanks for the info, Julian, and as always, thank you for producing such consistently enjoyable products.

I have a trivia question about the 23 year for you, if you don't mind. When exactly was this bottling put in the barrel? Would it be exaclty 23 years old, or is there a margin of a couple of months that it's given to reach perfection? I'm going to look up a few significant historical events that took place while it was sleeping, and I'd like to know just where to start. It's a fun way to put into perspective just how long it takes to make something this unique.

thanks,

Mark

I don't recall exactly what Julian said earlier this year, but it was on or about Dec 7th 23 years ago. That's why they had to wait until Dec to bottle it. I got to taste it at 22 1/2 years old and it is gooooood!

The 23-year we just botles was entered into the barrel on 12/7/82 & 12/8/82.

These barrels were dumped on the 9th & 10th of December. So it is "Just" 23-years old.

The batch we bottle in January will be 23 years and 1 month old.
