gr8erdane
I don't know, but that fourth grain MUST be gold plated. 80 bucks huh? My little nip of the test batch that found its way to the Gazebo had a very strong white dog taste to it on my palate. Maybe the bottled stuff might show a bit more finish. But 80 bucks? Edward_call_me_Ed
So, Dane, you think we ought to wait a couple of years for the 8 yr old to come out?Ed
bobbyc
wait a couple of years for the 8 yr old to come out? Is that going to happen? They say only 2000 cases of the present one exist, and that's it for the 6 year. They do not mention what might still be in the warehouse.
gr8erdane
I was just saying that the white dog taste I got was a little too raw for my tastes. I love tasting the dog on distillery tours as that is a special event for me, but it wouldn't be so special to me if I tasted it while sitting on my deck in St Charles. I don't know and haven't heard anything about an older version but if there were, that would be the one I would purchase (if they could pry the 80 bucks outta my wallet). Edward_call_me_Ed
No idea, really. I just assume that if they are going to go to the trouble of making any at all that they are going to make enough to age, that and some to bottle next year. Otherwise, why do it at all? Just my two cents.Ed
MDV
Anybody try this yet? I have to admit, when I first heard about this, I was immediately intrigued. Was this purely a marketing gimmick or was there something to this Four-Grain business? I thought about it long and hard, yet resisted the temptation. Over the past few days, my curiosity continued to grow and today, it overtook all common sense and fiscal responsibility… I came home with a $74.99 bottle of mystery.I will report my experiences in a little while... HighTower
Is this just a new release of the WR 4 grain they released last year or does it differ somehow??Scott
jburlowski
Not worth the $80, IMHO. I thought the original release was horrible.BTW, the original distribution was soon marked down as a close-out in a local store. Apparently, they couldn't move it at the original price. pepcycle
The new 4G is available at Liquor Barn in Lexington for ~$85. Not going to buy it until I get to taste it. Its says Batch 2 on the neck band.
smokinjoe
I do a fair amount of traveling around the country, and stop in a lot of liquor stores to check out what is available. But, oddly enough, I have never seen this bottling anywhere. Based on the reviews, I have probably been fortunate, and saved myself $80. However, I too would like to at least taste it. I didn't see it at Talbot's in Bardstown or, I would have tried it there. Did I miss it? Is it available at any of the big Louisville whiskey bars? JOE Joe, The old version is available at Jockey silks bar in Louisville. However I must agree with most comments here on the forum. It’s not a good bourbon. nor02lei
Thanks Leif. Do you happen to recall the cost for a pour?JOEJoe,I think it was 13 or14 but the bar lady could not find it in the system so I struck lucky and got it for the Woodford reserve price 6.50. The prices were generally lower in Jockey Silks than the other bigger bourbon bars in Louisville like MM, Seebach or Bourbon bistro.Leif
TNbourbon
Is this just a new release of the WR 4 grain they released last year or does it differ somehow??ScottI saw it in SE Tennessee (Chattanooga area) last week en route to Florida -- @ $90-$95, before tax! It's the same stuff as last year's, but a year longer in barrel. Who knows, maybe that year transformed it into something wonderful. But I'm with Ed -- taste first, at that price.(Don't know if it's in Middle Tennessee yet -- I haven't been here for a week to notice.)
cowdery
Do you know it's the same stuff with another year in the barrel, or is it a second batch? That's what I've been wondering.
TNbourbon
Do you know it's the same stuff with another year in the barrel, or is it a second batch? That's what I've been wondering. My sole reference, Chuck, is my memory -- so there you go:skep: . Somewhere, I listened in on a discussion, or read a statement, in which a second bottling was mentioned, and the question asked. The response was that it's the same whiskey, but older. I also seem to recollect that there is no more of the 4-grain in the immediate 'pipeline'.
cowdery
As you may recall, when they launched it they did a stunt where they brought in a bunch of whiskey writers and had us help pick the barrels that went into the final mix. As I recall, we had to select something like 12 out of 14. (I'm sure it's posted here somewhere.) Maybe this release is the barrels we rejected in 2005. TNbourbon
...Maybe this release is the barrels we rejected in 2005.Or, my recollection could be all wet. How many barrels is 750 cases -- that's what I've read (really, just today! http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/?p=96) is going to 16 different markets?By the way, I've seen this bottling at least twice in the last week -- so, if anyone just has to have it, PM me. Figure $100 after sales tax in TN.
