Geo
My friend just went to Boseman Montana and brought back a surprise! A bottle of George T Stagg at 131.9 proof. We opened it and WOW! This is the best Bourbon I ever had... simply delicious!! Anyone know the year of bottling based on the proof? I also got 3 new bottles of Old Weller Antique 107. TNbourbon
Stagg @ 131.9 proof is the Lot A (Kentucky distribution only) bottling from spring 2005. Since I know of a few in Tennessee , too, I'm not surprised to see it's been carried elsewhere.
NorCalBoozer
I believe Lot A was 130.9 and the regular run 131.8 I'm guessing he misread the label and it could be 131.8 Stagg @ 131.9 proof is the Lot A (Kentucky distribution only) bottling from spring 2005. So, I guess he either got the Kentucky-only or non-Kentucky one, huh?
bobbyc
This is the best Bourbon I ever had... simply delicious!! And ever since I misidentified it as Wild Turkey Russells Reserve 101 and another called it Maker's Mark at the blind tasting, I've paused to wonder how good it is, really................ wadewood
Bobby - blind tastings with multiple bourbons can be very confusing. Try Stagg side by side with WT RR and you will know which is which.I often try 2 bourbons at a time for comparison. Tonight it was Bulliet vs. 4 Roses bourbon (not SB). The Bulliet had more rye notes.
Gillman
I agree. Context is necessary for such a product because the various examples are quite similar, especially as the product ages.Gary
Hedmans Brorsa
I often try 2 bourbons at a time for comparison Me too. I often try 2-4 whiskeys together in what I refer to as "semi-blind tastings".The best thing, in my view, is to make it thematic, for instance, three different Maker´s mark or one rye, one corn whiskey and one wheated bourbon. My experience is that you learn an awful lot from arrangements like these. Bamber
I enjoyed a few Weller 7yo 107 proofs over the weekend so much that it made me wonder about rankings in general.I always say Stagg and ER 17yo are my favourites and they probably are, but Saturday evening, sitting on the sofa, I'd swear that Weller was the finest whisky I'd ever tasted.Suggestion is a big factor. gr8erdane
As the song says "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". It's a great bourbon philosophy I try to live by.
