Knob Creek - Number 1 Premium Bourbon in World?

Interesting article on Knob Creek and Fred Noe. However, this writer says that Knob Creek is the number one premium bourbon in the world. Is that true or just this writer's opinion?

i think he left out the word "selling" inbetween "one" and "premium"

this sounds more logical "Knob Creek is the number one selling premium bourbon in the world"

It's not even the best in the Beam small batch lineup IMHO.

Mabey I'm just biased as a Bill Samuels disciple, but none of the Beam brands excite me except Black label. Knob Creek, Booker's, et al are overpriced for what they are IMO. They do have a great marketing department though

MM - now THERE is a great marketing department. The lucite tumblers they sent out this summer were great as travel glasses. We took 'em to KY this fall. And the return address labels they just sent are very cool (I doubt we'll be using the MM Chrismas cards though. Just doesn't seem to be the right message for Christmas. Pity, they're very nice.. My wife (who hates Bourbon) even tells everybody how she got to dip her bottle in the red wax. You gotta love it!

Yeah, I guess so, but I've been drinking MM long before Bill made it "trendy". I drink what I like, not what some ad tells me I should like. Beam and JD sell a heckuva lot of spirit, but they aren't worth drowning in cola IMO. Beam Black is a notable exception. But what do I know, I like Old Charter 8yr. for an around the house sippin' whisky.

Makers has had several owners (IIRC Johnny Walker was the first after the Samuels) and most have been very hands off. It is still to be determined whether Fortune Brands will be as easy going with them. What I fear the most is that I know of no export only bottlings from Beam, could this be the end of the Black Label or could it become available everywhere?

Hey at least this is a company that cares about whiskey and won't run them into the ground or let them die of neglect like some other companies have done, both to bourbon and scotch distilleries.

Thanks, Timothy, I'm aware of the other owners, and I'm sure that the "hands off" by investors won't last much longer. I know Bill and Booker were tight, I hope Fred is likewise, and will keep MM small, and true to form.

I haven't heard of the Regan's book,mebbe I need to look for it.

BTW, I have an indirect link to Samuels, as my uncle owns the old T.W. Samuels distillery in Deatsville, across from some of Heaven Hill's barns. Sadly, nothing is made there today. Uncle had a bottled water operation there until family health issues forced operations to cease.

It's a good read, I think it is out of print. A happy coincidence then. They have a rating system and "Around the House Bourbon" is a rating used by them.

Interesting the family tie to that distillery.

An excellent book, usually a copy or two available used on Amazon, though it'll set you back the price of 2-3 bottles. I've also heard good things about Chuck Cowdery's "Bourbon, Straight"(it's on my Amazon wish list).
