ORVW 15 yo 107 or the 10 year old version?

I have a chance to pick-up a bottle of ORVW 15 107 proof ($43), it is new to me and the distance to purchase is considerable. I have seen the thread about out of production bottles but they seem to have plenty.

My question is which bottle has the better taste, 15 year old or 10 year old which is also there and priced around ($25).

It's not an accident that the 15yo is pricier -- it's better (and the extra 5 years' taxes have to be paid, too!). But that's not to say the 10yo isn't a fine value for what you pay for it.

If the distance is the same to get either bottle and it is a considerable distance I'd get the 15 (if it's really considerable, I'd get both). Remember if you factor gas into the cost: the cost per bottle gets lower the more you buy.

Tim is correct: it is better and that and the taxes make it worth more.

As far as them still having plenty, bottlings such as these may take a while to sell through before they get replaced by the newer bottling. They might have plenty now, but in 2 weeks 2 months 2 years(or as Rughi and Dougdog have proven) 2 decades they will be gone. smil41df29a15fb35.gif

If you think you'll want it, get it and if you don't at some point, you can just send it to me and I'll take care of it for you. lol.gif

I have to add that $43 is a good price. When it was available around here, I never saw it for less that $45. Plus, once the stores realized they had a gem.....the price at one store went up to $53! Buy it, and I say, buy more than one....you won't regret it.

Mike,

43 bucks is a great price. I'd buy as much as my budget would allow. I'd also stock up on the 10-107. This stuff is not growing on trees anymore. Buy all you can. Remember, you can always sell it to us.

Thanks,

Iam convinced they are both worth having. Heading out this morning and will return with a couple of the 15's and as many of the 10 yo as the budget has left.

The also list ER 17 which I have never tasted and found so many of you rave about, so that has to come back also. Should be a very nice week for me!

Am I missing something here? The ORVW 15yr I thought was gone. The Pappy Van Winkle 15 yr is around, at $36-$42. The ORVW 107 is like $27.00, but 10 year. Are there still ORVW 15 years around?

Mike,

Personally I think both are real great bourbon, but I do actually prefer the 10 Y old witch I think is one of my personal favourites. That is the Frankfurt-Bernheim version. I have not tried the SW 10 Y version.

Hi Mike,

Boise? Where in Boise? A friend of mine lives in a small town near Boise. I think I know what I want for Christmas...
