Please don't tease. I was truly tempted to make an 8-10 hour road trip (round trip) last weekend just to get Buffalo Trace, Elmer T. Lee and some of the other (so-called) lower end bourbons not available in GA. No telling what I might do for some of the Antique Collection.

Did not intend to offend. I've been using the locate feature on the Buffalo Trace web page and the nearest BT bourbon is more than 200 miles away. Alcoholic beverages can't be shipped here so Binny's and the other online stores are out of the question.

Every review I read here about bourbons that are unavailable to me are a tease but please don't stop. I enjoy the reviews. Not sure I can justify a 400-500 mile road trip to purchase a few bottles of bourbon. I have to think up some good excuse for being in the area.

Yes, it is unfortunate that we can't get some things in GA. In particular, it appears that there are some issues about distributors that have kept BT products Stagg, Saz, and BT itself from making it here. I certainly wish that were not so; I'd rate the Stagg and Saz as maybe the best pours I've had, and would welcome the opportunity to taste BT. On the other hand, we do have plenty of the VW bourbons (but I have never seen the rye) and Blanton's, as well as a number of others that would make some other people happy. Could be worse; Alabama seems a particulary barren place.

I had a co-worker grab a bottle of BT when she went to Nashville last fall. When I find my excuse to get up there I'll stockpile a good supply. For the price its hard to beat and better than some for which I've paid twice the price.

Also hope to put a dent in someone's supply of Elmer T. Lee.

Having driven to Bardstown a couple of times from Eastern PA and it's a haul but I have no problem driving to Lexington for a weekend to stock up on AAA. Little tougher to justify now that BT is available here. I feel your pain re Binnys. Always ways to get around that. I have it shipped to a friend in WI and he just relabels and UPS' to me. Not that I would ever condone walking on the wrong side of the law....

I was just browsing the State of Michigan online price list and was surprised to see WLW available here - for $49.99. I think that's about $10 more than I found it in Kentucky. (I decided not to buy it, though, as I'm not that big a fan of wheaters.)

Since we are a control state, it's hard to figure what might be brought in.

My mistake. I was misremembering it - perhaps because I did buy the new Bernheim straight wheat on that visit for $39. I think the WLW was upper $40's at Cork 'n' Bottle in Covington.

About half the stores I frequent around Memphis seem to all have at least a couple of bottles of WLW in stock. Problem is the price....anywhere from a few pennies to a few dollars over $60 including tax. Sounds like it must be in short supply elsewhere around the country.

Oh well, 'bout what you expect in Memphis where most people who drink prefer Thunderbird or Georgia Moon.

Ran across some WLW today at best price yet here in W Tennessee - $53 + tax. Sounds like it is more scarce in areas where it was less.....or, just more demand in those areas. As I said a few days ago, demand in Memphis is highest for Thunderbird & Georgia Moon....well, might as well add any beer under $4 a six pack also.

It surprises me sometimes - nobody I work with has even heard of Stagg or Van Winkle. Out of 30+ people, none can talk intelligently with me about bourbon and only 2 will talk about it all. One guy used to drink Old Charter and the other has Maker's occasionally. Just about everyone there has a story about JD and just about all of them think JD is bourbon. If they don't drink beer, it is exclusively JD.

I have never counted myself as part of the extremely polished or refined crowd.....but, these folks I am around are starting to convince me that at least as far as spirits are concerned - maybe I am more refined than I ever knew!

Some of you probably wonder how & why I have posted so much on here since joining on 12/26. Well, now you know! I have absolutely no one here in person to talk to about bourbon. All of the questions, thoughts, opinions, etc., have been suppressed for so long.

So, I hope I am not 'wearing out my welcome' as they say.

Wow, I have had those exact thoughts!!!!!! With the exception of my best friend in Oregon, I have NO ONE to discuss these things with, I am trying to slowly turn an older friend who I used to work with and soon may work with again onto bourbon, but it's an uphill battle!

My girlfriend is starting to get worried about all the time I spend on the computer, she asks if I am surfing porn? No, it's better than that!! I answer...

Alas, have faith Wayne, we can convert and educate people if we stay diligent! That friend I speak of actually came around about 4 years ago when I was pouring Bookers for him to try, of all things for him to fall in love with it was Bookers, needless to say at Thanksgiving he was further enamored with the GTS! I guess he was born for the barrel proof? He is now trying things almost faster than I am, every business trip I hear about something new...

We have dreams of opening a restaurant specializing in my bourbon marinated steak, a bourbon chocolate chip cookie I am working on along with a mashed bourbon sweet potato and a few other things. Can you tell what the theme will be?

If I remember correctly, the way the state laws in GA work, anyone who wants to distribute their product has to actually transfer or sell rights to the name to the distributor. Ken from Buffalo Trace posted a while back that this was one of the big stumbling blocks in getting their whiskey into the state.

Of course, I could have imagined all this since I can't find his post, but I could have sworn I read something like that...

Yeah, it was those comments of his back in May (I can't figure out how to post the link) that gave me some understanding of the probelm. Until then, I just couldn't figure out why we had lots of some of the BT products and none of others. Apparently it is label by label (i.e., OC, OGD, etc.) not parent company (i.,e, BT, Beam, etc.). I guess we're a "franchise state."

I have seen a good bit of it in my area. So much, that I have put off getting one for the time being while I channel the dollars for more scarce items. It sure looks and sounds good though. I like the wheaters, so I know this will be a favorite for me.

Dave, I pulled the only one off the shelf at the Orange Beverages and More, but I was at the Huntington Beach location yesterday and they also had ONE. Funny neither of there website inventories showed these! I

'd gladly help you secure it if the need be? Strangely this seems to be one of the scarcest in this area; the GTS is incredibly abundant right now. I also just left Hi Time wine cellar where they had Saz and GTS but no WLW.
