Frodo
Hi Everyone. I'm going to ask some relatives who live in LA to bring up some bourbon for me that I can't get in Toronto, Canada. I'm interested in getting some George T. Stagg and perhaps some Sarzac 18 as I'm a huge fan of BT products. I'd be greatful if anyone who is familliar with the area can let me know of some locations which may carry these two bourbons. Also a bit curious about Four Roses single barrel. Great site here by the way!!
BourbonJoe
Can't help with the LA locations, but to my knowledge, Four Roses Single Barrel is only released in Kentucky, so you probably won't find any in LA. Joe
TNbourbon
I know Doug and, recently, Jeff Renner have done some L.A. bourbon-hunting, so I'll let them chime in on that matter -- but I'm afraid Four Roses Single Barrel is Kentucky-only at this point. SBOmarc
You can find the George T Stagg, but not Four Roses. BevMo has a good selection and some liquor stores will surprise from time to time. Caution, prices will be higher than most.
dougdog
Frodo,The new releases of the BT stuff has finally made it to California, but is goes very quickly if it hits the shelf the shelf...get on-line at bevmo.com and go to work on finding a store with stock. You could also try Wine and Liquor Depot in Van Nuys, or Mission Liquor in Pasadena...those are the few big ones I know about.OR....make friends with a few of those good-ole-boys in Kentucky/Tennessee and start tradin'.The Bevmo in Fremont had one (1) bottle of 05 Saz Rye 18yo left on the shelf as of yesterday, (I'd go get it for you if you'd like) the San Jose store on Camden Ave. had lots of Stagg as of yesterday, I think the Fremont store might have had a few bottles left on the shelf, I really wasn't payin' much attention to the Stagg....I believe the rye is gone for the most part around the Bay Area.By now you know "we don't get no" Four Roses out in these here parts!best regards, dougdog
Frodo
Thanks Dougdog - much appretiated! Probably looking for something more central in LA. Freemont is like a 'burb in LA isn't it? Greatful for your offer though!! If I can find family members more mobile down there I may ask this favour of you in future. Right now, I can't bother familly living in LA right now. But I can & will in future. The idea for Bevmo sounds great, and I hope they ship bottles between stores! This way I can put a couple bottles on hold, and give coordinates for them to be picked up! Can't believe that GTS is only about $50 US. In Ontario, Blanton's Gold Label is about $90 Cdn - or about $77.50 US.

Virus_Of_Life
Cannot go wrong with Bevmo, which by the way stands for Beverages and More, I visit one about every other week to pick up something or just see what is new. Here are the locations in the greater LA area: Canoga Park, Chino Hills, Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Valencia, Van Nuys, West Hollywood, Torrance. I personally am in Orange County so have not been to any of those locations; Irvine, Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel are my local haunts. Either way you can view a store's inventory online by switching from the 'ship to' option to 'pick up' at the top of the website and choose your store location of choice. From what I have just seen the Stagg is very plentiful at most OC locations, when I was at Irvine they hadn't brought it out of the back room as of last Friday, unfortunately they were out of the Saz., but now their online inventory states 3 in stock so maybe they got more? Not sure, but plan to pick one up next payday if it’s still there. I do find that here in SoCal (please note I am a native Oregonian and have only been here 2+ years) bourbon is not all that popular or at least I have yet to find any bars where it is nor many people who enjoy it; maybe I am just looking in the wrong places – if any of you know of any good bourbon bars or even bars with large bourbon selections in the OC area please let me know. Hope that helps some, just keep in mind that Mission Liquors is considerably higher than BevMo on their prices: Compare Sazerac 18yo at $79.99 vs. BevMo at $46.99… Yeah, I love BevMo truly the greatest store I have ever come across. If you need someone to ship something to you I’d be open to the possibility; I ship to my bourbon drinking friend in Oregon all the time…Obviously as you have noted I am new to this site, just found it recently. I have enjoyed whiskey for some time now, but just recently (last 3 years) have focused strictly on bourbon – God Bless America!!! Anyway I am curious what some of you more seasoned tasters think of Peter Jake’s Private Keep? One of my personal favorites along with Stagg of course and am wondering; is a large amount of char sediment common in the Stagg bottles? Yes I know it is unfiltered, but the last ¼ of my bottle was loaded with it. Thoughts?
gr8erdane
Welcome to SB.com! Pull up a stool and sit a spell. I've never been to a BevMo but I have shopped there online and they do have some decent prices. As far as Peter Jakes Private Keep, I bought a bottle some time back and while it hasn't been revisited lately, I can't remember having any bad feelings about it. I think it gets overlooked a lot here because so little is known about it and distribution of the product might be sketchy. I may have to revisit it during Thursday night chat....hmmm. All I can say about the char in GTS is that I like my bourbon like my peanut butter...chunky!
Frodo
Thanks VOL: Unfortunatly, Custems will intercept any shipments of liquor comming accross the border to Canada. Thanks for the thought though. Your locations of Bevmo and clarification on how to access info are much appretiated!!!
