A small local liquor store has had a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 1990 in a gift box (with two glasses) for the past 2-3 years I've lived here. The liquor store is generally overpriced and has a poor selection, so I very rarely go there, but I stopped in today and the EWSB 1990 was still there. The price is still the same that it's been - $39.95. In the past, that seemed way too steep, but I guess inflation and a sense that I'm not going to see much EWSB 1990 anymore has me questioning myself.

One wrinkle is that I've had the EWSB 1994 and didn't like it all that much. Last tasted it in September with a flight of bourbons that I found suspect in one way or another - I was trying to decide whether I would keep them or give them away to my friends who were tasting them with me. Just took a look at my tasting notes, and I liked the Evan Williams 1783 slightly better than the EWSB 1994, but didn't like either very much. While I generally prefer Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace, I am not thoroughly anti-Heaven Hill, as I enjoy EC12 ok (but not EC18), quite like Old Fitz 1849 and VSOF12, and once enjoyed EW7 as a low-budget bourbon. I'm not particularly keen on the camphor/eucalyptus/menthol scent in their non-wheated bourbons, but it's not a deal-breaker.

So I guess my question is how similar are EWSB 1990 and EWSB 1994, and is there enough variation that I might enjoy one and not enjoy the other? Apart from that, how is the price and how rare is EWSB 1990? Should I pick up the EWSB 1990 for trading purposes, if nothing else?

Also, given that this has been sitting there for probably about 6 years now, what are the chances that I could bargain them down to maybe $30?

Thanks for the advice.

After trying EC12 again last night along with some EW "Master Distiller's Select" (from their commemorative jug), I think my taste buds are headed away from rye-recipe HH bourbons altogether.
