I'll start out by saying, "I LIKE Manhattan's." That being said, I got home from work tonight and just wanted something different. I picked up my COMPLETE WORLD BARTENDER GUIDE and just started browsing and ran across this drink The "Manhattan Maneater" 1 1/2 oz. Whiskey, 2tbs. Southern Comfort, 1-2 dashes of orange bitters. I used Old Whiskey River and made it on the rocks. This tastes great! I'm not a big Southern Comfort Drinker, but it mixed great in this. I later tried adding a "little" sweet vermouth and that was enjoyable too. Anyone ever hear of or try this??? Give it a shot!

Mine. I had them in my bar.

My Father' s Family made a Manhattan very similar. I always thought using the sweet vermouth was strange but that never stopped that group from drinking them by the batch. At age ten I took a swig of one on the rocks that looked like Iced Tea to me, what a surprise I got!

And actually, now that I look it wasn't orange (my mistake) it was Angostura Aromatic bitters, sorry my bad! But glad you were entertained by my wonderful sense of humor!!!

C'mon

There must be some difference between stolen vs "my own" bitters.

I personally prefer the flavor of someone else's stuff to my own.

Isn't that the Gazebo Principle?

Ed, I agree wholeheartedly but only as long as someone doesn't bring USED bitters.....

The only time I have sampled bitters was in a Bourbon Old Fashioned - pretty much the only other way I'll drink Bourbon apart from straight up, and only with a good/trusted cocktail barman making it.

The Bourbon Old Fashioned is normally made with orange, sugar syrup and bitters but I had a barman at the Marriott Hotel in London Heathrow, suggest I try it made with lime...

He said if I didn't like it with lime it was on the house - it really worked well. I may just have had another I forget now!
