There is a liquor store by me that still has a bottle of this. I know it was a critic's favorite but I was wondering what you guys think of it.

So what do you think and what should I pay?

I have a bottle of this and it is very good. When this was still regularly available, it was about 64.00 a bottle at places like Binny's and Sam's in Chicago. I actually bought mine at a duty free store a couple of years back for about 45.00. I have read that the current Jamesons 18yr replaced the Gold. The 18 sells for 65.00-70.00 a bottle depending on where you get it. The Gold did not have an age statement but I once read that it was in the vicinity of 13 years old. I hope this helps!

I can also vouch for the Gold bottling. It has less sherry-wood influence than other premium Jameson´s and it is partly matured in new oak barrels which makes it a bit more rougher in style (relatively, I have to stress) than your average Irish whiskey.

Try it!

It's still made for the duty free market. The whiskies in it range from about 13 yrs to 20+ yrs. Personally, I love it.

They want $92 for it but luckily I travel to Ireland once a year or so. It will have to wait.

I've been there many times recently and they didn't have it. Maybe it's in some sort of case. I'll have to investigate this weekend.

Thanks for the tip!

If you click to buy it says "Jameson 18 YO Gold". I'm assuming this is the standard Jameson 18 YO.

Jameosn Gold is a great drop. Lots of Bourbon on the nose (those virgin oak barrels I guess). A bourbon drinkers Irish to be sure :)

I asked about the Jameson Gold Special Reserve while touring the Middleton distillery a week or so ago. They told me it is essentially a duty free item now but you may find it here and there, but not at the Middleton gift shop. The DF shop at Shannon had about 10 irish whiskeys open for sampling ..... so I tried the Gold at the behest of the sales lady. It is excellent and was on special at about 40 euros, so I grabbed one. The Knappogue 1994 (sp?) was also on sale for 24 euros, so I grabbed one of those too. I ended up bringing home the Red Breast 15yo, the Jameson Gold and the Knap.

They also poured a special bottling of Bushmills that was aged entirely in rum barrels. It was also interesting.

I'm going to be visiting Ireland late this summer, I will definitely pick up one of these from Duty Free. Let me know what you think of the Redbreast 15. BTW it is spelt Midleton.
