Every so often we close the previous thread and start a new one. This is mostly to keep such a large thread managable and easy to load for our members with slower connections. You can find the last thread HERE

BTW, I think this is the 6th edition of the WAYDN thread.

Im relatively new to bourbon.... I just picked up some EC12yo. Poured about 3 fingers over ice, added just a splash of water. All I can say is, MMMMMMmmmM! Very nice, very smooth.

Drinking my fav. tonight, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, neat. No matter what else I have open there is no better and more consistant bourbon for every day.

Just my humble opinion!

I am drinking right now Jim Beam White 7YO. Now supposedly this is not available everywhere. But we have it in both KY and KS. The K states. I don't know where else it is sold.

I think this stuff is pretty good but..... I first had some (tonight)... Elmer T. Lee.... and for some reason tonight after having VOB the other night Elmer T. Lee seems rough! Although maybe a little more complex.

So I had some of the other stuff I have hanging around. I opened my new AAA 10Yr and found it a bit complex..... but I was not in a mood for dealing with complex and longed for the simple good taste I experienced with the VOB.

Then I poured some Beam 7YO white and added some diet coke. And had another....

Now I am up to 7YO Beam White on the rocks and to tell you....... to learn about what you like in bourbon you gotta drink a lot of bourbon in different circumstances.

But so far as I can tell I made a mistake in KY when I went there I shoulda bought at least two big half gallon bottles of 100 proof VOB.

The liquor store owner said he thought VOB was Well Bourbon. But they are using Ezra Brooks for Well bourbon at the Texas Roadhouse where I had dinner.

Now they are two different bourbons for sure.

I have yet to try Ezra Brooks. If it is like Evan Williams I think I'll appreciate it. But you know, I thought the VOB was so good I could probably live with it and Evan Williams and be satisified for variety.

A Manhattan made with Bulleit. It was not the best Manhattan I've made, but it was much better than straight Bulleit.

Yesterday I tried Elijah Craig 12 year for the first time (neat, as all first time tastings should be IMHO). Tonight I poured a glass on the rocks, and enjoyed it so much that I poured another and came here to talk about it...

Wild Turkey Tribute, last night was the first sampling of this so I figured I keep the theme rolling a little longer. Better switch soon though don't want to tear through an out of production hundred dollar bottle too quickly! This is pretty darn good stuff :drink:

I'm drinking Ancient Ancient Age 10YO. The last time I tasted it, a few days ago, I thought it was rough. Today its just fine. Shows how the drinker influences the impression of the drink!

Standard Van Winkle Lot B as a setup to some similarly-aged single-barrel S-W stuff I've run across.

Tim,

It would be interesting to hear what you think of the different expressions especially if the standard bottle is a Bernheim.

New to bourbon and this forum. Hi all!! Jumped the fence from single malt scotch. I enjoy the taste of bourbon much more than scotch, and look forward to tasting as many as I can.

Tonight I'm drinking Knob Creek, and plan to pick up a bottle of Bookers this week.

Welcome to the forum, I am relatively new myself, and have learned a lot here. I received a bottle of Knob Creek for Christmas and sipped my way through it pretty quickly. Booker's is my personal favorite but I still have many to try. I love the warm sensation, almost like a thick caramel sauce across my tongue.

I am pretty easy still, I have yet to try a Bourbon I wouldn't drink again if it was offered to me, but I am getting a little pickier and finding some I enjoy much more!

Welcome and enjoy!

Just to finish the bottle. As well documented on this string, it's not worth the price. I will say however it has become more mellow since it was opened in December.

Tonight it is Pappy Van Winkle 15/107 followed by WLW. These are my 1st drinks in 3 weeks due to sinus and severe head and chest cold. Both tasted fantastic!

I'm having a non-bourbon night tonight, after working the noon-9 shift at the liquor store. I brought home a couple of bottles of a red wine I've been eying for a couple of weeks -- 2001 Trinity Oaks Zinfandel. It's an inexpensive, light-ish Zin, but I generally prefer red to have a few years of bottle-aging, and 2001 was one of the better recent years for the varietal in California. It was a case of lousy stock rotation by the distributor -- we've sold the 2004 Trinity Oaks more recently -- so this has tempted me since the moment I saw it.

Anyway, am pleasantly surprised. While lighter-bodied than I expect Zinfandel to be, this has very bright and lively fruit -- dark cherries, red raspberries -- and still it contains purple tints in the glass. Yet, a solid backbone of tannins lies underneath. The color leads me to believe there's no hurry to open it (though certainly it's not exactly age-worthy, either), so I may just grab the remaining 4-5 bottles on the shelf. Having paid just $5.94 each for two bottles, I feel well-rewarded.

As a sometime angina sufferer, I too often forget to remember that red wine is a more proactive and enjoyable cause of a headache than nitroglycerine tablets. I need to remember to give over a few nights more often to the grape spirits.

OGD 114 by my side tonight. This one really kind of "snuck up on me" and took me by surprise. I've been nursing a bottle of it for a couple of months now and I've come to realize, just tonight, that this really is a great bourbon.

Definitely deserves a spot on the shelf from now on...

Tim,

Zinfandels are also one of my passions. I especially look for ones under 10 bucks. Good Zins under 10 bucks are very few and far between in my part of the world. Glad you enjoyed the Trinity Oaks.

Joe_Blowe, I really enjoy OGD 114. I know everyone tastes are different...it hits me almost like Bookers, but its 1/2 the price! They are out of OGD 114 in WA. in as far as I can tell, so I have my name on a list to be called when it comes in about 4 weeks from now.

I am enjoying the Bookers so much right now, I keep returning to it, but for me its a little pricey as an everyday pour...just...cant...stop...myself...
