Nebraska
last night the Mrs and I had a bit of Pama on the Rocks. Nice way for both of us to end the weekend.Tonight, it's bulleit. First time out of the gate with this, I didn't care for it at all, thought it was a BIG waste of money. This time I'm not going to be quite so harsh. The first one went down pretty easy. The second not quite as easy, but still alright.First bottle I found for about $25 something, my back up bottle I found the other day for $18 and change. For that price I'm not going to complain too much.Mark/Nebraska
Gillman
I had Bulleit in Bardstown recently (twice, from different bottles) and was a little disappointed. It had the signature peppermint taste (spicy cinammon) but the mouthfeel was not as soft as I recall from two years ago and the flavor not quite as fine. At that time, Bulleit seemed almost as good as Four Roses Single Barrel. I guess each lot or barrel differs and maybe the current bottlings are somewhat lesser than what was aimed for originally. I intend to persist, because I think the goals of the distillery are high, as shown by the early Bulleit bottlings (from Four Roses - I never had the one from Trace) and that it will return to form.Gary
wskybnt
Bakers tonight. It is one of my top 5. Something about all these 107 whiskey's....
BourbonSteve
I had Bulliet for the first time last week and quite enjoyed it. Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Tonight tho was a dance with Rock Hill Farms, still the best pour I've had to date although I'm pleased with JB black label time and again. ProofPositive
Opened up my first bottle of Weller Centennial tonight. In comparison to the Weller 12 I just polished off, the Centennial is the winner by a nose.....10 proof to be exact. I was extremely impressed by the 12 but this Centennial is a bit more lively and smoother than I expected on the back-end. That is the 100 proof coming out I suppose - and the reason I would prefer it ever so slightly over Weller 12. However, never turn down an opportunity for either one! Another salute to Buffalo Trace!!!
DrinkyBanjo
I've never tired the Centennial but I do have the Antique 107. If you haven't tried it yet go out and get some!

SBOmarc
It was a tough call but tonight's pour is Weller 107. It is mighty tasty.
alphaiii
Weller seems to be a hit tonight. I had some of the Weller 12 a little bit earlier. For those of you who like the Weller Antique 107, how does it compare to the Weller 12, in your opinion?
DrinkyBanjo
I like the Weller 12 a little better at the lower proof. The 107 is almost a bit too much but that said it is a very tasty bourbon. I've never had them back to back.
BobA
Last night was OGD BIB. Had recently finished a bottle of 114, and thought I'd try the BIB again. I now remember why the BIB had sat for a few of months after opening. At first, a pleasant reminder of the 114, just a little less so as to flavor. But then there was a touch of harshness on the finish of the BIB, which I have never gotten from the 114, and I remembered that I had hoped the "open bottle" effect would take that away. I don't recall this with earlier bottles of BIB, so it may be this batch. Or it might be the Beam yeast; the taste is a little reminiscent of the JB white after taste. Still worth drinking, though.Bob
MurphyDawg
Last night I had old Ezra seven year with a La Gloria Cubana Wavell, maduro. and it was quite the tasty combination, realtively cost effective as well!TomC
pepcycle
I've been disconnected from The Net, on and off for a few days. (Thanks, Insight Cable!!!) So, I'm reporting on Sunday's festivities that included my son graduating from UK. Swollen with pride, I was the glowing Poppa, celebrating another milestone in my inevitable and careening slide into being old. As Cornhole (a beanbag game) and Beer Pong (a drinking game) were going on in the background, the men gathered at the firepit with a bottle of Weller 12 (BOTY) and some Hemingway Short Stories. The band played Jimi Hendrix in the garage as we celebrated. ("Let me stand next to your fire")Not a bad evening, considering it rained right up until the moment guests arrived and then it was cool and clear. GoodDrinkin
Believe it or not it's been quite a while since I've had any Rare Breed. I've been so busy trying other brands I've neglected one of my favorites. All I can say is it's nice to come home! Even at 108 proof it isn't overpowering or hot. The aroma seems to have a hebal note along with caramel. It has a nice oily feel in my mouth. A slight bit of sweetness on the tip of the tongue and then it explodes in my mouth with a rye spicyness that I love. The finish is warm, but not hot. No burn to me.That's damn fine whiskey.Still in my top 3.

For those of you who like the Weller Antique 107, how does it compare to the Weller 12, in your opinion?I prefer the 107 Antique. The 12 yr has little or no finish. Nice and smooth, but tastes watered down in my opinion.
Nebraska
Ed,...anybody that mentions Hendricks, Hemingway and a fire pit in one post deserves a nod and a lift from the bourbon glass.Tonight it's my first taste of Elijah Craig 12, this one's for you...Mark/Nebraska
gothbat
A nice big snifter of PVW20. Wasn't paying attention and poured alot more than I wanted too, oh well, guess I can't let it go to waste .
wskybnt
I am on the ole faithful, bread and butter, WT101. Up till the last year I drank it everynight almost for a couple of years. Now I must have 25 to 30 open bottles that I cycle through, and still have 101 a couple of times a week. I mean is there really a better bourbon for the $$$. Edward_call_me_Ed
Finished off a bottle of OGD 114. This is a bottle I will always try to have on hand. My favorite is still Bookers, but at about 1/2 the price, OGD 114 has a great flavor that really hits me just right. Hope you all have an excellent weekend. :toast:Lucky you . Here OGD 114 is more like 3/4 the price of Booker's. At that price there are other whiskies that I like better. Let me put that another way. There are whiskies that I like better that are also cheaper. I like Booker's well enough to pay the piper. I can't manage to keep a bottle of it open all the time. I drink it faster than I buy it. My bottle of OGD 114, my second, sits there mostly unvisited. It will probably be a while before I buy another bottle so I don't want to drink it up and thereby not have any on hand for when that is the only thing that will do.Ed

Edward_call_me_Ed
Tonight, after having beer, a Japanese whisky, and a gin tonic, I am having a pour of Elmer T Lee. Far and away the best pour of the evening. Ed
Nebraska
The EC 12 is going to take another try. I've had bad allergy stuff going on lately...unusual for me (could be the 35mph winds outside and everything within 50 miles pollinating all at the same time)...and I think it has thrown my taste buds off temporarily. All I was getting was faint hints of Listerine.Being the dedicated taster that I am, I'm going to give it another stab tonight. I also managed to find some Eagle Rare 101/10, which I have never tried, so I guess it's going to be both of those tonight. Taste buds willing! Whiskey River
It's 40F and rainy, and the WT Rye I'm having, really hits the spot. I think I'll continue down the bourbon rye road tonight. Next OGD 114, then on to WTRB.
