I poured ETL last night. Great stuff. I was very puzzled as to why everyone seemed so positive on the stuff with my first bottle. This bottle is much, much better. Now I understand its acclaim.

Bookers, Binny's Selection.

They selected a good barrel. This is probably the best Bookers I've ever had. It is typical bookers but has a stronger hint of vanilla sweetness. Really adds a dimension that I havn't found in other bottles of Bookers. One of the few bourbons I also like to drink with a cube of ice.

GTS, this is the Corvette of Bourbon. There are smoother bourbons, more expensive bourbons, nicer bottles, harder to find bourbons out there. But if you want in your face, with a kick, straight to the point, not cheap but worth every penny bourbon, then this it is....

i won't argue the merits of Stagg, it's a Hall of Fame bourbon, if there is such a place. Followed the Bookers with a pour of Weller Centennial another great BT bourbon.

Bulleit neat, the first time I've had it, just picked it up today. Not too bad, but a little rough around the edges. Then onto Wild Turkey Rare Breed, always good and not a bad price. Then the same with a cube or two tossed in. Maybe a glass of Sazerac Rye 18 for a nightcap. We'll see.

Poured a glass of Eagle Rare 10 YO. After that I poured a bottle of 1999 Fenestra Smith & Hook Cabernet Sauvignon. Great stuff.

Next up Bulleit, again, not my favorite, but it was worth trying as a daily pourer. Then off to PVWFR 15, a gourgous, oaky behemoth, I love it. Soon I'm hoping to pick up a bottle of the 20 as well.

After dinner, the Patty poured some Weller and declared "not as good" as the sample she had last week.

Ends up that she poured "Barrel C" and Not BOTY.

I took a sip and declared it great but different. More citrus/leather, less sweet, shorter finish on the Barrel C.

But Great!!

How can you lose?

Patty "allowed" me to finish the Barrel C and went for the BOTY.

Having a pour of George T Stagg (fall 05) cut with water down to about 110 proof. Picked up my first bottle last week and this my third session. Still not sure what to think, very good, but expecting a little more. I'll hold my opinion untill I'm further into the bottle.

Is the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit worth buying? How does it compare against other bourbons in its price range? And does anyone have any tastings notes and/or comments?

PS I am a big fan of the WT Rare Breed

I have always liked the Kentucky Spirit. Has more of what the RB has and the finish is what really sold me. If that is worth the extra $$'s in your market then it is up to you. Here I pay $20 more for KS. It is a treat for me considering KS is more expensive than Blanton's, RHF and some other favs.

Enjoying another nice, generous pour of Rittenhouse BIB.

Before trying it, I had a hard time imagining this was any judge's (or anyone's) "best North American whiskey in 2006."

I can't pick an all things considered favorite (I have a hard enough time picking a top ten), but this rye fits me like a glove, and at $12 a fifth, it is without a doubt my QPR champ.
