BourbonJoe
Happy Birthday Tricky, IMO the 12 and 20 are closer in style to each other ( with the exception of smoothness) than the 15 is to either.Any comment?I somewhat concur with your assessment although I think the 20 is far and away better than the 12.Joe :usflag:
CrispyCritter
a pour of Old Fitz BIB Stitzel Weller from the early nineties. What a treat, and to think most likely there is a considerable amount of this stuff still sitting on store shelves collecting dust. Probably can be had for $10-15. this is so not "bottom shelf". Indeed, I'm currently enjoying a pour of a current Old Fitz BIB, and even it is far better than its price might suggest - enough so that it's one of my "keep a bottle on hand" bourbons. I'd love to get my paws on a Stitzel-Weller bottle to see how it compares. Before the Old Fitz BIB, I had a lovely WT Rye Manhattan. :drink:
jburlowski
Does anyone else wonder why the Pappy 15 is so much oakier than the Pappy 20? On the contraary, I find the 15 much more complex and enjoyable than the 20.

TimmyBoston
On the contraary, I find the 15 much more complex and enjoyable than the 20.When I said the 15 was oakier, It wasn't a criticism. I find oak to a valueable attribute in the balance of a good whisky. I also find the 15 greater in complexity.
TimmyBoston
Tonight I started off with Wild Turkey Tribute. I absolutely love that stuff. It may be my favorite bourbon of all time. The downside is that its so good I'm racing through my bottle. And I can't replace it!Now I'm off to Lot B, which is still very very good and a lot cheaper and easier to get ahold of. Next I think I'll try a vatting (simple just made in my glass) of a few of my whiskeys. Possibly Lot B, Pappy 15, Black Maple Hills and we'll see. Does anyone else make mixtures? Frodo
Last night some Bookers! A very complex whiskey full of oak and oranges in this bottle. Makes me cry that I can't get any Wild Turkey bottlings apart from the 80% abv bottlings...Ooohh wait - I can get Rare Breed in a few stores. Hmmmm... FlashPuppy
RHF is my number 1 and I don't see that changing anytime soon. EC12 and Evan Williams SB are faves of quite a few members on here but I don't care for them at all. i agree with this statement here except for the EWSB. i am revisiting the EC12 right now, third time, can't place it. just not MY bourbon to be drinking... elkdoggydog
Heaven Hill BIB right now- best $11 bourbon in the world, I reckon. Old Forester 100 is on deck, with a little trepidation, as many here don't seem to like it. Some list it as a favorite, though, and if I like it, the price is absolutely right. If I don't like it, EC12 costs about the same.
jeff
I really like Old Forester 100, though I thought it was a little better before the introduction of the Birthday Bourbon. Could be all in my head though...
elkdoggydog
I like it too, Jeff. Nothing extradordinary here, just some nice sweetness, some vanilla, maybe a little caramel, but nothing too complex. Nice rye flavor. Good bourbon at a good price. I'd buy it again.
TimmyBoston
Two small pours of BMH 11, followed up by Eagle Rare SB 90. Very happy with all of them.

Damn I forgot how good this bourbon is. Lots of vanilla and caramel and just a hint of pumpkin pie spice. I remember early on proclaiming this as my favorite bourbon, and now I remember why. Even better, I didn't realize until I got home that I was charged for only one of my 2 bottles. $17 for 2 liters of bourbon...not bad:cool:
DrinkyBanjo
Turkey is flying tonight. Rye followed by 101. Then if I'm so inspired I'm not quite sure yet.

TimmyBoston
I went on a mini shopping spree today and I picked up some WT RR 101, EW 1783 and some Corozon Anejo Tequila. It was sale and what can I say sometimes on a hot day good tequila really hits the spot. But anyway, I've never had the RR but I was happy with it lots of leather, wood and spice, I'm happy with my purchase. Another new bourbon, at least to me, is EW 1783, I got a bottle for 10 bucks and I am so impressed with it. Lots of Rye and spice and you can't beat the price, This is definately the best bourbon I've had under 20 dollars.
greenbob
That reminds me Ratcheer, I think you asked me about Bulliet last December. I'm sorry I didn't get back. I'm sorry you don't like it. It's turned out to be my favorite Bourbon.greenbob

I have yet to find it here in CA, but I'm going home for a visit to North Carolina in a couple of weeks and will surely snag a bottle or two there. I think somebody here once tasted asparagus in it, which I pray I never notice...

The pumpkin pie spice is something I tasted but couldn't put my finger on- thanks for finding the words. 2 liters for 17 bucks is, of course, outrageous. I think that alone would make the bourbon taste even better.

TimmyBoston
Lot B. I think I'll have to say that it's my favorite. I love the stuff. I need to not drink too much though, so I remember to pick up another bottle.
