First: OGD 114 / Lot 2 / 1981 (ND).....Been staring at this bottle for months and finally tonite popped the old red seal and cork. Some had evaporated but the cork was fine and the bourbon even finer. A good example of the illogic in waiting so long......didn't know what I was missing!

Second: A final pour of the June BOTM for old time's sake, PVW 15.

Decided to break out the big boys tonight. Leading off was Black Maple Hill 16, Pappy 15, (I have really acquired a fondness for the stuff), next was WT Tribute and yet another Tribute. Finally a Pappy 20 before bed. It was a long night at work but after I popped the first cork my night got a lot better.

Last night was WT 12 YO Split, followed by KS and then a Lot B. Was my first experience with 12 YO and I was quite pleased to say the least. Looking further to more experiences with this one.

Coming off of a fine 7 day visit to Cabo where it is a "bourbon challenged" part of the world. Not to worry, sampled some rums and tequila. Not to mention the 100 plus temps made beer the choice also.

That being said, walked right in to the house from the airport and poured a Lot B.

Had a monster gym session this morning, followed by a 6 mile run and an afternoon at a local open air music festival.

I kicked back this evening with a large RHF and am now on a WT 101 8YO. The WT lacks a bit of depth compared to RHF - but it's still a mighty fine pour for the money.

Reading Philip's post wore me out...so last night I revisited Stagg 2005 fall. I haven't quite got the handle on this one yet. More tasting required...

This weekend was OC 12, since I've been saying it's a good warm weather pour, and that is certainly what we've been having. I was correct.

Tomorrow will be Eagle Rare 101; seems appropriate to the day.

Pappy 15, EW 1783, Eagle Rare 10, Talisker 10. And some chamomile (spelling?) tea with honey healthy dose of Glenlivet 12 , my all time favorite nightcap with a snifter of Laphroiag on the side. If that doesn't help you get to sleep nothing will.

The lovely and charming Lot B following up by a little more muscle Stagg Fall 05.

Black Maple Hill Tonight. Started off with the 16, down to the 11 for a couple small pours and finishing with the 16.

I just got home from work and am having a large pour of Elmer T. Lee, on the rocks. It is as good as any bourbon I have ever tasted.

Did someone say that this brand is being discontinued? If so, why do they always stop making the best ones (e.g., WT RR 101) but keep making the dogs, forever?

No one said Elmer T. Lee is being discontinued, Tim.

Okay, good. Maybe I dreamed it, but I thought someone said it yesterday or Wednesday.

After review on the field, the accuracy of Tim's power of observation and recall is upheld.

However, the mention may have referred to a local distrubution situation.

Yours truly,

An odd night! Wanted something cold, even though the hottest temps were days ago. No diet Cola in the 'fridge. So, turned to Chuck C. recommendation, brown zinfandel -- and poured Eagle Rare 17 over my rare 'rocks', intending to pour Stagg (hey, one's right in front of the other!). Followed it with 141.2 Stagg. Enjoyable -- I knew it could handle the dilution. Still restless, I poured some Michter's 10yo SB rye in a shaker of ice, pouring out the whiskey and leaving the ice. If this isn't the reincarnation of Saz 18 (of course it is! Drew confirmed it's closer to 20, and Buffalo Trace didn't distill the 18), I don't know what is...

Anyway, cold whiskey has just about put me on ice...

Black Maple Hill 14 again. It's good but the taste and the fact that I could get a bottle of PVW20 for $5 more than I paid for this bottle (assuming the store ever gets it in again that is) means that it's not a good value imo.

Had my first pour of Pappy 15 tonight, and all I've got to say is WOW!

Well, that's not actually all I have to say. I got most of the way through my drink before I remembered this was supposed to be 107 proof :skep: I declare Shenanigans ;) This stuff is as smooth as silk and has a sweetness and taste I really like. I can tell from the first drink that I'll be buying this again.

Cheers,

Wade

Had a night tonight of drinking mediocre red and white wine with a couple of Bud Lights. It was a nice refresher and made me appreciate my bourbon at home some much more.
