TNbourbon
I've looked at this on an area shelf for a couple of years, and finally bit today (only $32 and tax) just to save me future internal debate:grin: : Anyway, Koji (or anyone else), do you know anything about it? I'll probably bring it to the Sampler, so we can all learn more.
OscarV
I have never heard of Suntory Royal Blend. But today I finally got a bottle of Suntory's Yamazaki 12 year old.I had to special order it from a store that I sell to and it came in today. The nose reminds me of an Irish Whisky that I like, Tyrconnell, it is similar but lighter, a lot lighter and sweet. The taste, again a very light Tyrconnell, with very slight peatiness. Or am I imagining that because of "single malt" on the label and thinking of scotch? The finish is a good lentgh, that eventually goes to plum peel and very slight oak. This is my first impression and I only tried it neat,I will try one with a little water, and since it is Friday I am sure I will have a few on the rocks.I was glad to get this, now I need a couple more for my collection,Prichard's Double Barrel Bourbon andConecuh Ridge Alabama Whiskey, any suggestions on how to get these?Oscar
CrispyCritter
This is (IMHO) one of the better buys in single malts, in spite of (because of?) its Japanese origin. To me, it resembles a Highland malt rather than a Speyside or Islay - it doesn't have the sherry typical of Speyside, and it has no peat that I could discern.Lovely stuff, though - and if you have doubts about Japanese whisky, Yamazaki 12yo will put such doubts to rest. It's in the circa $30 area here. I've also seen an 18yo version, but it costs a LOT more, to the point that I've never bought the 18yo.
Powertrip
Anyone ever tried the Suntory 10yr Special Reserve Blend? Absolutely delicious stuff which Jim Murray rates very highly. One of the best blends to hit my mouth so far. Picked up a few bottles of it.If you can find it (very rare in N.America) then I would highly recommend it.
