Best Bourbon Stores in Austin TX?

I'll be visiting family near Austin TX later this month. I've heard that Twin Liquors is pretty good, but there seem to be a hundred of them in Austin.

What are a couple of shops with the best selection, or most unusual selection?

It seems like every corner of the country gets a different selection of Bourbon, so I like to bring back a couple treasures whenever I travel.

Thanks,

Mike

Austin doesn't seem to have many "oh WOW" selections IMO, but here's some quick thoughts:

Louisville Weller 107 and the telltale black bag is everywhere. RR101 is nearly gone from everywhere.

Twins are verys solid stores. Each has mostly the same stuff, but w/ some stocking quirks.

Warehouse Liquors on South 1st has some interesting finds. Probably my favorite all-around liquor store (Cofradia tequila and CHEAP WVFRR. . .how could it not be?).

Centennial on Guadalupe (right in college town) has some cool things like that Dickel special edition and WT12.

Grapevine, the big place off MoPac suprisingly has a pretty lame bourbon section. . .esp. compared to their SMSW selection which is the best in town.

The Costco off 183 cannot sell liquor obviously but they have partnered with a San Antonio chain called Western Beverages to put a deep discount store right next to Costco. Nothing too stunning, but if 1.75s of Eagle Rare SB 90 @ $39.99 are your bag you might want to stop by.

That's it really. I haven't done a lot of "dusty corners" hunting in other cities besides Austin but it seems like a pretty average bourbon shopping town. Perhaps others have beaten me to it. YMMV of course :)

I realize you're new to the forum, but if the Continnial store really has WT12 (Wild Turkey 12 yr old) and you left it on the shelf.......it'll be gone before you can go back to grab it!

Please be kind and add your location to your profile. For this post, we know you're from Texas, but I won't remember that when I read your next one

WT12 just sitting around on a shelf and not being bought!?!? That just almost brings tear to my eye. If it wasn't such a long drive I'd head out there and get it myself, but I am sure someone else will read that and give it a home.

Some people just don't appreciate what they've got till it's gone...

Good call. After visiting this store and one mentioned in another post, Twin Liquors had nothing new to offer.

Thanks!

Plenty left on the shelf. I wouldn't do that to you! :)

That was a very cool little store.

Thanks, Mike

My vote goes to:

Beverage World

1948 S I-35 access road, Austin, TX

(512) 440-7778

They have all kinds of good bourbons, including the full line of (more recent) Black Maple Hill bourbons, several bottles of Van Winkle Rye 13 y.o., and more.

And be sure to check out the attached store, "Whip In," for Beer, Wine & Cigars - they have a truly great beer selection, including some bottle-condition beers that they have aged since 1997 & 2001. It's at 1950 S. I-35, 512-442-5337.
