Bourbon Article

I found this article in a local free magazine that I received in the mail. I was going to chuck it but low and behold I scanned a bourbon article!

What a truely super selection of whiskey in both pages of that article. I think it may be time fot a late afternoon snifter!

That's a very appealling presentation. I think it would motivate adventurous drinkers of other spirits to give bourbon a try. Good job.

I'm curious about the ratings, especially one such as "8.3". That suggests either a rather complex system or more participants than just you and the co-author. Would you care to describe your method?

Thank you for the compliments. We worked hard to make the artcile look nice and have informative, but cathcy content.

As far as the ratings go, we were trying to give them a top to bottom rating that added some merit. After I reviewed our ratings, I probably would have changed a few. Too late now!

I love the way the presentation in the artcile came out. I couldn't have asked for a better "looking" article. I have it framed at 150% of the regular size near my bar.

Rum is the next article I am working on. It will be out soon as well for the summer issue.

Not only was the overall look top-notch (both the photos and the text), I thought you did a good job of presenting the right amount of information for the average, lifestyle-conscious person. I've found as an amateur that the hardest task a non-fiction writer faces is to decide on the reader's level of interest and tailor the presentation accordingly.

In connection with, let's say, the 8.3 rating for Booker's did each of the two of you simply assign a single rating, say 8.0 and 8.6, which you then averaged? Or did each of you assign a rating for each of several factors (e.g., appearance, nose, palate and finish)? If the latter, were those factors weighted?

All the ratings were 90% my personal ratings in regards to the featured bourbons. It was based solely on taste profiles and not at all on price. I wanted to give accurate ratings based on taste alone regardless of price to the readers. In the case of ETL, that would have received a higher rating if price was a majoe factor, but to stay within the confines of the "Top Shelf" idea, we disregarded price.

On a side note, I rate all my spiris on a 10.0 scale with decmals in my personal online inventory. www.liquorhunter.com. I do lan in possibly expanding that to a 1000 point scale, but not for the articles.

I couldn't have asked for a better "looking" article.

I agree - nice looking article. One curiousity, though. The bourbons all look unnaturally pale - especially the Eagle Rare. I think the photographer had a lot of back lighting.

Speaking of Bourbon Articles, has anyone seen the latest issue of Everyday with Rachael Ray??? There is about a 5 page spread towards the back on "Bourbon Country" Shows the Woodford reserve stills and even lists 3 bourbons to buy with pictures: EWSB, WT RR and PVWFR 20yo!! Very nice....

Could this be the "proof in the pudding" that Bourbon is gaining in popularity?

And before anyone asks I do like Rachael and read her magazine, gotta a problem with that?

About the other arcticle, it is awesome! Only question I have (and yes this is a nitpick), doesn't the port finish exclude DM from being an actual bourbon? Not that I am going to get into an argument with Booker over this or anything :lol: just technically speaking of course.... But it's nice to see an article in which 7 of the 10 bourbons shown are in my cupboard!!

I believe they get around this on a technicallity by labeling it something like "Bourbon finished in port casks"

Must confess I've never heard of the magazine or Ms. Ray. But I found it and the article is online.
