Edward_call_me_Ed
I think every single bottle is open unless it is a back up of something that is open. There might be one or two that haven't been cracked yet, but I am not saving them, just neglecting them. I think there must be around a hundred of them. I will go check. I need to pour my first drink anyway.Ed
Edward_call_me_Ed
114 open bottles. That count could be off by 3 or 4 either up or down. I did find a few unopened bottles. I opened one, a bottle of Bulliet I got on vacation last year. I will get them all open here soon. There are Bourbons, Ryes, Japanese whiskies and Brandies, Scotch, Irish, a couple of bottles each of Gin, Vodka, and Tequila. Ed

Jazzhead
LIke some here, I find it hard to bunker a bottle, a new bourbon has to be investigated! Dant BIB Old Taylor BIB Kentucky Tavern 80 (late eighties Owensboro) IW Harper 15 yo "Bourbon Heritage Collection" Old Hickory (late eighties Publicker) Michter's Sour Mash (hex sign ceramic jug) Fleischmann's BIB (seventies bottle, distilled in Owensboro) Dickel No. 12 JD Single Barrel Rebel Yell 80 Walker's Deluxe Woodford Reserve Knob Creek Saz Jr. Rye Old Pogue EWSB 1987 vintage Bellows Club 6yo (seventies bottle) Weller Centennial 10 yo I guess it's the same indulgent kick as from collecting jazz records - the freedom to choose the music and the whiskey, whether old or new, and of whatever style. Doncha know Duke Ellington goes good with Old Forester, John Coltrane with a WT Rye?

jbutler
Wow..What a difference a year makes. As I look at that list from when it was posted and what I now have open, my tastes have taken a change, yet some still stay the same. It's interesting isn't it?Until just recently, I had been a huge fan of Eagle Rare 17. I was having a conversation with Doug Phillips about it a while back, and he was telling me that he didn't understand my affinity for the bottling.I then realized that I hadn't consumed any in about a year and a half. He and I tasted some at my party this last July, and I had to agree -- I just didn't get my previous fascination with the stuff. I'm not saying it's bad whiskey however. The point is that a couple years ago, it was on my "top ten" list, and today I am at a loss to explain why. Tastes do indeed change over time. The constants for me over the years have been (amongst a very few others) WT 101 and Blanton's. Those two have withstood my personal test of time.
