I guess i'll just have to look a bit harder. If you find anything out of the ordinary let us know via the 'Bourbon Availability Downunder' thread.

leigh.

Will do

Not sure if this was stated or not (its been a while since I started this thread)....so this may be a recap -

Heaven Hill products available from most Liquorland or Vintage Cellars stores in Brisbane -

Elijah Craig 12yo

Evan Williams 7yo

95 Evan Williams SB

Virgin Bourbon

BWS carry Jim Beam Bonded 1ltr bottles that used to only be available duty free. They also carry Nelson County 40% which is another Heaven Hill product (and awesome value in my opinion)

Have a look at www.nicks.com.au - they are a Melbourne based store carying:

Buffalo Trace

Blantons Original, Silver, Gold and Family Reserve

Virginia Gentleman

Hirsch 16yo

Most of the other stuff can be found locally at most stores.

Being in Fl., it's not easy acquiring a wide assortment of quality bourbon. Most of ones listed, I've gotten due to the recommendations of the list. And for that, I'm very grateful.

I think every single bottle is open unless it is a back up of something that is open. There might be one or two that haven't been cracked yet, but I am not saving them, just neglecting them. I think there must be around a hundred of them. I will go check. I need to pour my first drink anyway.

114 open bottles. That count could be off by 3 or 4 either up or down. I did find a few unopened bottles. I opened one, a bottle of Bulliet I got on vacation last year. I will get them all open here soon. There are Bourbons, Ryes, Japanese whiskies and Brandies, Scotch, Irish, a couple of bottles each of Gin, Vodka, and Tequila.

I told my wife about this thread. I believe a comment along the lines of "I've got some catching up to do" nearly got me the opportunity to sleep on the couch :-)

I have everything open as well:

Maker's Mark

Elmer T. Lee

Elijah Craig 12 YO

Pappy Van Winkel 20 YO

Eagle Rare 10 YO

Knob Creek

That's it. That's as far as I've gotten on this little bourbon journey. Admittedly I'm on my second bottle of ETL and third bottle of Maker's Mark. So far Eagle Rare is my favorite.

LIke some here, I find it hard to bunker a bottle, a new bourbon has to be investigated! Here's what's open right now:

Old Forester 86

Old Taylor BIB

Walker's Deluxe

Woodford Reserve

Knob Creek

Saz Jr. Rye

Old Pogue

EWSB 1987 vintage

Bellows Club 6yo (seventies bottle)

I guess it's the same indulgent kick as from collecting jazz records - the freedom to choose the music and the whiskey, whether old or new, and of whatever style. Doncha know Duke Ellington goes good with Old Forester, John Coltrane with a WT Rye? :)

It's interesting isn't it?

Until just recently, I had been a huge fan of Eagle Rare 17. I was having a conversation with Doug Phillips about it a while back, and he was telling me that he didn't understand my affinity for the bottling.

I then realized that I hadn't consumed any in about a year and a half. He and I tasted some at my party this last July, and I had to agree -- I just didn't get my previous fascination with the stuff. I'm not saying it's bad whiskey however. The point is that a couple years ago, it was on my "top ten" list, and today I am at a loss to explain why. Tastes do indeed change over time.

The constants for me over the years have been (amongst a very few others) WT 101 and Blanton's. Those two have withstood my personal test of time.
