Brown-Forman's beverage business reached a record level in fiscal 2000. Beverage operating income improved 7% in fiscal 2000, fueled in part by strong worldwide performance by the Jack Daniel's family of brands. Several new and developing brands are contributing to gross profit growth, including Woodford Reserve.

By surpassing the six million case depletion mark in fiscal 2000, Jack Daniel's became the world's second largest brand of premium whiskey. Jack Daniel's is also the top-selling whiskey of any type in the U.S. and the number one American whiskey in the global beverage market. The brand attained record volumes in virtually every country last year, showing particular strength in the United States. Other members of the Jack Daniel's family - Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniel's Country Cocktails, and Jack Daniel's Single Barrel - also registered excellent gains.

Woodford Reserve received top honors and was named Best Bourbon at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2000.
