Okay.... you have walked into the best stocked hotel bar in the World on the 1st day of a 2 week vacation. Everything (limited release and every year) is there wating for you to try - what would be your 1st pour and why?

Mine would be (after much gnashing of teeth!) RHF staight up.

A couple of old fashioned, VW Lot B, VWFRR 13 YO, GTS 2003 and numerous WT offerings would follow in the next few days but RHF is my 1st in best dressed!

Very Very Old Fitzgerald because it may be the single greatest bourbon ever produced. Followed by all the other great iterations of SW Old Fitzgerald.

I would try something that didn't look familiar to me.

I believe I would start with some George Dickel from when it was made at what is now Buffalo Trace, and then follow up with some of Professor Crow's best. Then it's on to a drop or two of Jefferson's Rye, Mitcher's Sour Mash, Colonel Blanton's private stock, Maker's 101....Hmmm? Only two weeks? Maybe they're hiring!

Mine would be Wild Turkey 12-year old. It is my current "Holy Grail" bourbon, because I have never had the opportunity to try it. Well, I did pass up a bottle in Atlanta about five years ago because I didn't have the necessary funds ($50 + tax), at the time.

The new Buffalo Trace Experimental Releases. I'd be curious to see how the experiments (double virgin oak, french oak, and higher char) affect the spirit. REALLY curiuous about this release...

No it’s not available here. Only chance I have had to bay it was from a Japanese eBay dealer that offered it for around 550 USD. My wallet was far to thin for that price.

And never has been. Let us once and for all dispel the notion that Europe is some sort of Bourbon heaven.

The only reason why a lot of exotic stuff end up here is because of enterprising specialist shop owners who import the stuff, presumably from Japan.

The WT 17yo was, for a short while, available from The Whisky Exchange some 3 years ago for at least half the price it seems to go for now. It was very good but not my favourite WT.

The exception to this rule is the little known east European country, Molvania, which has as amazing selection of Bourbon available. Even some that hasn´t been officially released anywhere else. The Buffalo Trace experimental collection, for instance, has been available there for many years.

I was previously unaware of the country of Molvania. I have difficulty with the post-colonial names of countries, to say nothing of the post-Soviet names and realignments. Thank you so much for helping me expand my knowledge of other lands and cultures.

By the merest chance, only minutes ago I heard a rumor that Willie Nelson will be doing a Dental-Aid concert on behalf of the Molvanian people.

Whether or not the concert comes to pass I hope each of us in this group can include a token donation to that worthy cause when we send in our orders for the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection.

I ordered some "Old Shepherd" from a liquor store there once -- but the goatskin was punctured en route, the whiskey curdled, and all I got was soused!

Molvania is on the up!

I went there 3 years ago and had a wonderful time beating peasants and watching the public hangings.

I'd really recommend it as a family holiday destination, but hurry, as tourism may well spoil it!

Willie´s concert will go ahead as scheduled but for those planning to attend with grabbing some rare Bourbon back to the US as an ulterior motive, I strongly advise you to refrain.

Taking hard liquor out of Molvania is strictly outlawed and the authorities clamps down hard on any offenders.

I speak from personal experience. The other month I tried to smuggle out a bottle of the woefully rare Benjamin Pritchard´s quadruple-barreled Bourbon (only available, of course, in Molvania) and got caught at the airport by two handlebar-moustached fellas with grim apparitions.

I got off the hook by doing one weeks slave labour for one of the local warlords.

On my trip to Molvania I purchased a handblown glass bottle of the original Elijah Craig distilled whiskey sent to New Orleans via flatboat and which was smuggled to Molvania by three midget nuns under their habits. The price was fairly cheap but it was confiscated by two undercover officers (also with a handlebar mustaches) who were dressed as an organ grinder and his monkey.
