It's a little after noon and I am still tired from the whirlwind of events    ---->now that's a understatement

I took over a 100 pictures    (of course  )

I will post them but it's gonna take awhile...I think most of ya will enjoy seeing what we've been up to

I will post this picture and then try to get more rest before I post all of 'em

From left to right...Ed (pepcycle) me and Jeff

This is by far one of my favorite pictures...I have many favorites but this one ranks in the top "50" :skep:

This is part of a series of pictures taken that night...I was asked to "pose" for a group picture...they wanted to get a picture of the BOTY's (Bourbonian of the Year)...each SB.com member would hand other's their camera and then have someone snap picture for them...I handed my camera to someone (?) and they snapped this one

Look behind us....That's Dane being a bad boy :skep:   No telling what he did to Ed (his face reflects what might have happened)...and that hand over my head tells the tale of what he was about to do and why Jeff probably needs a hearing aid in his right ear...Ya know, the ear piercing sound a female makes when a man does something he's not supposed to do? :slappin: :slappin: :slappin: :slappin: :slappin: :slappin:

And yes, for all of ya familiar with my "smash mouth" lingo :skep:   ...Dane, does have a new one

Here are a few shots from the pool house at the General Nelson during our dinner organized by Randy. This was a lot of fun and sure to become a tradition. The evening started with 3 of Gary's manhattan recipes, they were all very good, followed by the catered dinner. The food was wonderful. Ken Weber was kind enough to bring a few bottles of Buffalo Trace's best. Thanks again to Randy for making the arrangements!

Several of our members assisted Charles (Cubacroc) in selecting a barrel of 14yo SW bourbon at Buffalo Trace to be bottled and used for various charitable events, including fundraisers for the Louisville Zoo.

The header...Yep, you read the subject header correct    We created the first ever "Bourbon Oriented" Straightbourbon.com Wedding      actually a renewal of vows

   Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh

I took alot of pictures and will narrate for those of ya that missed this awesome event. I will start from the beginning for the "newbies"

I will post two (and sometimes three) pictures on each post so it will be easy to follow...Posting more than that becomes difficult to follow. I like to make things easy     (Don't go there either) :skep:

The "GENERAL NELSON" (Best Western Motel) 411 W. Stephen Foster Ave. Bardstown, Ky.--->Straightbourbon.com headquarters<----    This is where the Gazebo is located...

Here's a few pictures  of our favorite spot in Bardstown. The first picture is the sign in front...The second picture is the office...the third is the pool, the GAZEBO is to the left   behind the General Nelson

Ed (pepcycle--Bourbonian of the Year 2006) and Patty Phalen renewed their wedding vows...The special twist? Patty had no idea that Ed was going to ask her to "re-new" their vows---their 25th Wedding Anniversary

All this was kept secret...It went well, with only a few "near misses" but with a few "white lies" we were able to focus her attention in another direction :skep:

The first picture is the "Bourbon Oriented" Wedding cake   with a built in personalized bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel...The silver corner accents (with the miniature EW''s on top) are spray painted "barrel bungs" The bottles holding the cake topper are spray painted bourbon bottles from Heaven Hill   The cake topper is the coolest I've ever seen...The bride dragging the groom by the back collar of his jacket   ...

Straightbourbon.com folks preparing...

Everyone slipped into the Gazebo to watch the "big suprise". The first picture is Cliff (Barrel_Proof) putting on his jacket as he walks to the Gazebo...

Ed and Patty's room was in "clear view" from the Gazebo

Tim Sousley (TNbourbon) was asked to escort Patty to the Gazebo. He waited outside the door for their exit. Leslie (Jeff's wife and the matron of honor) was inside the room keeping Patty busy until 5 o'clock....

I ran over to get a picture of Tim giving the bouquet of yellow long stem roses to her and was hoping to follow them   ....

Wrong   ....

Patty, pops out of the room and heads right past Tim...I am standing there with my camera and took the second picture in this thread...She looks at me....very puzzled...I said, go back in the room and look at it...Shoot   ...I didn't know what to say and that came out of my mouth....the best part? She turned around and went back in the room didn't even see Tim right beside the door holding a bouquet of roses...nor the, documentary crew (Tripodder)....they shot the entire ceremony...

She finally comes out with Leslie   Tim hands her the roses...She is very puzzled to say the least

The third picture is Leslie (matron of honor)...walking to the Gazebo. She had a long stem yellow rose that luckily appeared during the ceremony

The sweetest part...

The first picture is Tim (TNbourbon) escorting Patty to the Gazebo...She can see everyone, and is wondering what's going on...

The second is where she meets Ed (pepcycle) at the entrance and he asked her to renew their vows   ....

I cried at that moment...it was so sweet   They hugged and kissed before they walked down the isle

Last but not least...I would like to thank the volunteers who cleaned up the Gazebo for us...Don't know who you are but it was really good not to have to go out there and do that

Thanks to whoever took care of the linen tablecloths...They were neatly folded and place where I could find them easily....

Thanks, that meant alot

I opened my door this morning and found this (first picture) on the floor...Someone made sure that I would get it

The second picture is Bobbi...she is the manager of the General Nelson    She had the entire spread ready to go by 6:30 a.m.

Pat is a early riser...Very early   He woke me early and wanted a "big breakfast"...I ventured out to see if any of the SB.com folks were out yet...No luck...We went to town for awhile and came back...finally a found few SB.com folks    Randy, Kim, Jeff, Libby, Smokin' Joe, Troyce, Koji and Tim...I missed saying Good bye to alot of ya...I'm sorry...

Until next time    I had a great time and hope that there's many more to come

Bettye Jo,

Very nice pictures. It looks like you have had a lot of fun. One thing puzzles me though. Everybody seems to walk around in long trousers. I have changed to short trousers the other day here in Sweden. I thought the temperature was a lot warmer in Kentucky than Sweden this time of the year.

Hi Leif

The weather in Kentucky can be very unpredictable...Especially, in the spring. Last week, I had the air conditioner on...This week, the furnace

Just a very quick note. Just got back, stayed overnite in Buffalo, NY to break up car trip back. Great event. Great people, great whiskies. Even the Manhattans were pretty good. :) My only regret is I forgot to pour them "up" (neat no ice) because I know some people would have got the subtle flavours more that way, but anyway we got through 3 1.75 litres of 3 different recipes no trouble. :) Food was great as Jeff said (I am referring to the Friday night SB dinner). Whiskeys were great and there were some standouts including the pair of 70's Old Fitzgeralds, the 60's JTS Brown with its ripe apple nose and rich fruity toffeed taste, the 1940 Bonded Jim Beam and many others. And Jeff makes a great alt bier, let me tell you, only trouble is I had no time to try his oatmeal stout (that allotted time was spent on a diversion sampling Lenell's superb Brooklyn Cocktail (Rittenhouse rye, Amer Picon, vermouth and Maraschino liqueur, shaken and served up).

And I listened with Bobby in his truck to The Who's Young Man Blues LOUD just before Ed and Patty's inspiring renewal of vows. That truck was rockin'. :)

A special thanks to Jim Butler for creating this forum where we could all meet in such amity and mutual generosity. It was a privilege and I am sorry you missed this one.

Wow!!!

What a weekend. Renewal of Vows was spectacular.

We (Betty Jo and I) wanted it to be light and fun with just the right amount of serious content to make it a true redication of our (Patty and me) love.

I can't believe we pulled off the secret part.

I guess the element of surprise actually voided Chuck's concern of a "No" answer.

So much activity and so many clues.

Bettye Jo masterminded everything. The decorations, the cake, the flowers, the preacher, trolley, bubbles..... She's such a generous friend.

Thanks to Tim for taking the last minute duties to escort Patty to the Gazebo.

She cursed me the length of the parking lot. Tim was concerned about what to say and I told him, "Don't say Anything!! She'll get it about half-way to the Gazebo" We intentionally hid him outside the door, away from the Gazebo and that worked just fine.

We had a devil of a time getting our songs onto a CD. Thanks to Jeff for burnin' them about an hour before. It was fun to mix in a Bluegrass Processional and Recessional with the Wedding March and "Our Song" (I Pledge My Love To You by Peaches and Herb, which did not make the favorite singles post on another thread).

My ring required about 140 ft-lbs of torque to get back on. Its only been off twcie in 25 years.

The Sampler turned out to be a wonderful reception.

The rain held off long enough to get on the Trolley.

Bobby at the GN was great, putting up an extra tent and lining up all the chairs.

I had great fun and thank y'all for being great friends and accomplices.
