Hey guys, new member here, but have been getting into bourbon more and more over the last year or so...

anyways, i've managed to try all (most) of the wild turkeys (wt101, rr, rb, ks) and also pick up two bottles of tribute for my stash..

walking into a liquor store i frequent often, i noticed they had two dusty gold wild turkey tubes, and inside there were gold foil wild turkey 12 year olds... with a date stamp that appears to say 1991 ???

i find it hard to believe that these are from 91, maybe that means they were first casked in 91 or something?

regardless, they were definately "lost" in their warehouse somewhere, as they were extremely dirty and old on the outside packaging. they wanted $48.99 which I thought seemed fair and picked up both..

could anyone give me any info on these? would the date stamped on the back foil of the bottle be the actual bottling date, or the date that they started aging?

also, any thoughts on J&B Ultima? I know it was pretty much a novelty, (and isnt a bourbon) but it seems to be rather rare so i snatched up a bottle at $100 when I had the chance...

Gold foil Turkeys were bottled in the early 90s, by the late 90s the split-label was being produced. You picked up (for many) the holy grail of discontinued Turkeys and they are probably worth to a collector at least double what you paid. The $49 price is pretty much what it went for in many stores (which at the time was VERY pricy for bourbon and explains why it stood on the shelf for some time).

The gold foil turkey is a pretty nice pour, spicy with a healthy helping of oak. I have put down a few bottles WT12 in my bunker for future consumption and prefer it -- ever so slightly -- to the RR101.

At a minimum you should open the bottle and give it a go. If you are indifferent or don't like it, there are plenty of people that will pick up the second bottle at what you paid or more.

I doubt they have anymore but I'll go ask.. I rather enjoyed the wild turkeys I tried when I first started getting into bourbon, so wanted to be sure I could try the various ones and loved ones, so I have 2 of each: Tribute, RR101 and now the gold foil 12yr.

If I have the opportunity to pickup more RR101, you think that would be a wise thing? I havent tried the 101 yet but have tried the 80.

I think you'll find the 12 year gold foil to be the best WT you come across, and for that matter one of the better bourbons you ever try.

I was fortunate to have a similar incident a few years back on a bottle of WT12 gold foil...Traveling through rural Georgia I decided to stop at a "whole in the wall" liqour store..I "literally" blew the dust off of a bottle...I forget what I paid, but I do remember it was a steal!

Resurrecting this thread to brag. Buddy and I found two gold foil bottles today. There were two price tags. One was $45.99, the other $269.9.

I said, what's the deal on the prices?

We got them for $26.99 apiece.

BTW, the date stamped on the bottom appears to be 85. Is this possible?

Virus of Life (Christian) came down to visit the other week. While hunting, I think we found him a WT12 (split label albeit) for 27.99. There are still deals to be found.
