Bruce
As a relative neophyte to bourbon, I've read this forum for suggestions of bourbons to enjoy. I've made a list of several bourbons to try, and all have been excellent. I've been able to try Blanton's, Booker's, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, Ridgemont Reserve, Maker's Mark, as well as a few lesser quality bourbons. However, last night I was in Bacchus Wine & Spirits in Kalamazoo, MI and saw a 1 bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 20 year old. I must say this is an outstanding bourbon. I wish my paalate was educated enough to describe the flavor. I do know I like it, and will try to make the bottle last. My only regret is that I didn't also pick up the 2 bottles of PVW 15 y/o that were also there. I do enjoy Booker's and Basil Hayden as my first choices for drinking bourbon, followed by Knob Creek in a bar when available. Thanks for all of the information leading to this find. I look forward to reading and hopefully contributing to the discussions in the future.Brucehttp://www.lthforum.com
TNbourbon
You may well be aware of CityWide Liquors there in South Bend, whose main store in on Jefferson downtown, with satellite stores in Mishawaka and elsewhere. If not, you'd do well to acquaint yourself with them -- they have had, in the past, one of the best bourbon selections I've found. The Pappy 20yo, indeed, is always a fine treat. Bruce
Thanks for the tip. I went in to the downtown Citywide Liquor store today. They do have quite a collection of bourbons. By far the largest in this area. Plus the prices are reasonable. There was a bottle of the PVW 23 y/o which I may pick up in the near future if it is still available. If not I sure have quite a few more choices. Dave, the manager must have a great interest. I would be curious if he is a member here. I'll ask on my next visit. tango-papa
Bruce,Did you ever go back for that PVW 23 y/o?I'm also new to Bourbon, and, based on my readings here, am leaning toward a bottle myself - found one today for $217.Don't know if I'll spring for it, but it's tempting. Bruce
No, I didn't. I doubt if I can afford it until later.
