darkluna
I was watching the web-cam at Blantons and see that they are bottling new George T Stagg today. Looks like it's labelled 70.3%, 140.6 proof.I hope this means a new release is imminent?
jimibourbonhammered
Yea, they're probably trying to get it on the shelf before the KBF (Kentucky Bourbon Festival)
Brennan77
My uncle sent me some pictures of his trip to BT over the weekend. Sure enough the bottling operations featured the new Stagg. He said it was 146 proof, but maybe he misread.
gothbat
There was a post on 10/26/05 in the Industry News section saying that BT had released the Antique Collection so I'm guessing around then. Hopefully we will get a similar announcement this year. I also noticed that on 8/24/05 there was a post stating that they had announced the 2005 Antique Collection so perhaps we will see a similar announcement any day now. Whenever the release I’m hoping I can get my hands on a reasonably priced 3-pack this year. Talking to my local retailer, who said they could not order it for me now or closer to the release, and seeing what this years has been going for on ebay makes me wonder if I will though. :/

If you put it over ice, the marvarlous aroma goes away, and it tasted a little too much char. I guess straight is the way...any other thoughts on this from others who know? Preliminarily, it doesnt hold a candle to the PVW 20 yr I found at the same place.russellc

Pappy's Friend
I saw them bottling the current release. They said it should be released in October. I can't wait - the tour guide at BT said it was real smooth!

Perhaps just a little water will be less dramatic. Thanks again, Russellc
FlashPuppy
I find that I almost always can pick up more flavors at room temperature than iced. I find that 100-105 proof is uasually my threshold hold comfortable neat drinking. Stagg, however, is an exception sor some reason. I hardly get any burn off of it. SBOmarc
Was told mid to late October just today. My distributor has not been promised very much, if any. That means BevMo and cross my fingers.

CrispyCritter
My wallet just winced.:bowdown::slappin::bigeyes::woohoo: I better start making phone calls - though it wasn't until late October/early November that last fall's Antique Collection hit the shelves around here. Ubertaster
This is probably a dumb question. Does the Antique Collection come with a display box or carton or do you have to buy each one separately?bj
CrispyCritter
Most stores sell the Antique Collection as single bottles. However, they are wholesaled in cases of three, and each case contains a letter from BT with detailed information about whichever whiskey is in the case. If you're lucky (and willing to take a big wallet hit), you might be able to buy an unopened case from your retailer.

If you're lucky (and willing to take a big wallet hit), you might be able to buy an unopened case from your retailer.it was offered to me in a three pack, or single bottle just as you said. I elected for a single bottle, seems like it was about fifty bucks. Awfully strong stuff, I still prfer the Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr, which I have managed to score three bottles of so far. Seems like each store in one area chain only got 1 bottle each, so I have been rounding them up. The Staggs smells wonderful, is amazingly drinkable for the high proof, but a little burn at this level is unavoidable straight. Un fortunately, adding water seems to kill the wonderful smell.russellc
WhiskeyJack
I recently inquired at a local liquor store about a bottle of GTS . A few days later I got a call back telling me he'd have one for me this month. So I reckon there ready to go. I'm in upstate NY and they ant easy to come by here -a-bouts. You really have to do some hunting. Good Luck. Happy Trails, Whiskey Jack
mjomalle
Is anyone familiar with the mid Missouri area? I live in Columbia and would like to know where I need to go to find bottle such as this that won't be seeing shelves at every mom and pop liquor store in town. I live in Columbia and would like to know where I need to go to find bottle such as this that won't be seeing shelves at every mom and pop liquor store in town.I live in Fulton, Mo. and was just up to the Arena Liquor store in Columbia on Providence which has the some of the best bourbons in the area. They have a nice selection. I was also at the Nostalgia Shop on Walnut and they also have a nice selection but prices are quite a bit higher. They had a George T. Stagg for $125. You are much better off getting most of what you want via shipping. Binny's in Chicago had George T. Stagg for $50 the last time I called for an order.bj
mjomalle
Thanks. I have been in the Nostalgia Shop 1 time. It was a bit too pricey for my current means. Arena Liquors is a good store. I stop in there from time to time. I will check the online stores and see what I turn up. I may just have a friend stop by Sams when she goes home for the holidays. SingleBarrel
I'm a little off-topic from this thread, but my understanding from an e-mail I received this past June from BT was that they are releasing an uncut, unfiltered version of the Sazerac Rye in this year's Antique Collection, and it would be called the "Thomas H. Handy Uncut & Unfiltered Rye Whiskey". They go on to point out that "Thomas Handy was a bartender at our original Sazerac Coffeehouse in New Orleans during the late 1800's and it was Handy who first used rye whiskey in a Sazerac Cocktail rather than the traditional brandy. It is Thomas, therefore, that we have to thank for today's recipe for a great Sazerac."So, has anyone seen this new Sazerac Rye on the shelves yet? Is it part of the standard 3-bottle set, or in addition to the WLW, GT and regular Sazerac Rye? Anyway, I am very interested in acquiring all of them in any case, and am going to be in the Louisville/Lexington area from Thursday through Saturday of this week (10/26-10/28). I imagine if I'm going to find it, I'll certainly find it there! Heck, point me to the best store! Thanks for whatever assistance anyone can offer.

HighTower
The 2006 Antique collection consists of 5 bottles - Sazerac 18, Eagle Rare 17, George T Stagg, William Larue Weller and 8yo Thomas H Handy Sazerac. If you go to "General Bourbon Discussion" and scroll down find a thread titled " Buffalo Trace 2006 Antique Collection Press Photo".It contains a picture of all the 2006 bottles, postaed by shaggy, and has some other discussion on these bottles. I believe they will be out in the next couple of weeks?Scott
