The pours that never get old, and are never less than excellent, are Dickel No. 12 and Russell's Reserve 101. They have that elusive quality that Budweiser coined - drinkability.

Oh no, now we need a ginger ale taste off. Which is better with bourbon, Alabama's Buffalo Rock Golden or Kentucky's Ale-8-One?

Any other contenders?

I have it in my mind that they might be similar, Chuck. But, I have nothing to base that on except both originated in the south, so they may be formulated to satisfy similar tastes.

Buffalo Rock is quite dark, but not nearly so dark as Coca Cola. It has a very strong, spicy flavor. Little kids will not drink it, they say it is too "hot".

Why, good old Vernor's from Detroit (or it was originally)! Its fame has reached Toronto where it was a quasi-local favourite for generations and still is amongst the older set (and maybe the younger for all I know).

And who can forget the grandaddy - Canada Dry? A brand so famous there was even at one point a bourbon line extension. :)

Sounds very different. Ale-8-One is on the mild side even relative to mainstream ginger ales.

Although Vernor's has made an appearance in Chicagoland once in a while, Michigan is its stronghold. I've seen it almost anywhere in Michigan that I've been. It's good stuff, though, with a strong ginger bite.

Grampa used to bring Vernor's to us from Cleveland when they used to visit when I was a kid. I have absolutely loved the stuff since. Luckily they carry it here in Atlanta. Warning though! Wait till the bubbles die down after pouring before you breath in the aroma. It's a tickler and will make you sneeze!

Also, I find it totally different than Ale-8-One. Introduced to this over the Summer, and I really liked it.

Like the rest of you here I seem to have quite a few bottles open at any given time. Not an outrageous amount like some I've seen, more like around 12 or so. My bottles of Wild Turkey Rye are emptied with the most amount of regularity.

Some of you guys seem to have it pretty easy, if I had as many bottles of bourbon as some I've seen I would have some serious explaining to do.

If I don't say anything about her designer purse or MAC makeup, then she doesn't say anything about my bourbon. It's a pretty simple thing we got goin...

Amen to that. My better-half has a closet full of clothes with the price tags still on them, so I don't get much heat from the dozen or so (and growing) bottles in my bourbon bunker.

Its a local ginger ale. seems all the best are kept in regions. The best ginger ale is like top self bourbon, smooth with a kick. All those store brands, and top name brands are ok, but lack true ginger pop.

Without doubt WT 101 8YO is my most consumed Bourbon. The bite, sweetness, bang for buck and spicey combo it delivers is hard to beat.

After that in no particular order it would be BT 90 proof, VW 90 + 107 proof, JB black, and WVFRR 13 YO.

RHF is my special treat and ultimate fave but I keep that for special occasions.
