Finished off a 2006 GTS in anticipation of opening a 2007.

Well actually, I didn't finish it.... the final pour (about 1.5 ounces) looked like a dissolved charcoal briquette from all the char. I know others here have raved about "Stagg droppings" but all I could do was a little sip. My tongue ended up all black and gritty.

I'm relieved to read this post, the exact same thing happened to me about a month ago when I took a close look at the last two inches of my '06 Stagg. Dense black specks floating around, had a few sips but ended up pouring it out and had a EWSB instead. No sign of the antiques this far north yet, but we got a case or two last year..

in the last three evenings...gone:

  • Weller 107

  • Ridgemont Reserve 1792 (man, that last 1/6th of the bottle tasted like a more substantial, less sweet version of Gentleman Jack...odd!)

Jeez, guys -- ever heard of bourbon and Coke? Pour some cola over it, and you won't see the char anymore, and you'll have the best bourbon and cola you've ever had!

Damn Tim, I really like the way you think. I can't wait to finish me some Stagg. I will try it neat first...Coke if necessary!

I had the same problem with my '06 GTS. All you need is a coffee filter, elastic band, and a glass. Secure the filter atop the glass with the elastic then pour remaining contents of the GTS onto the filter, slowly. And, low and behold, you saved the last two inches of your bourbon.

The 2007 will be opened this weekend... stand by for a report.

In my first bottle I have emptied for a while, the end has come for a Binny's Weller 12. A sad moment indeed.

Good thing I have a backup!

Time for Binny's to open a store in Australia!

EWSB '96. I kept nursing this one thinking I might need it to compare to another EWSB vintage when I got around to opening it. Then I checked my inventory and realized I had more of the '96 than I realized - 4 more to be exact. So now I have an excuse to open another one...

Decided to get into the BOTM tonight, as I do not always have them available or on hand. Finished this particular bottle off, good thing there's 3 more to back it up!

Hello all,

The other night I finished off a bottle of Wild Turkey 12 that had had just one small pour left in it for quite some time. No problem with oxidization at all, just a really great whisky. It will be sorely missed because I can't justify the expense of buying another bottle just right now.

I don't know if it will actually expire tonight -- I've poured a deep dollop (the first sip brought a smile in memory), and there's maybe one half as large left covering the bottle bottom -- but I am extinguishing the last bottle I have left of ORVW 15/107, one of my early, all-time faves. It has the cherry note that screams "perfection" to me if all the other stars also are aligned -- and they are in this bourbon: healthy proof; present-but-tempered wood (the tempering is what I think the Pappy 15yo lacks); a uniform body of which you take note from entry to finish; and a balanced palate, with alcohol heat, grain and wood flavors, and an extra-normal integration which allows none to supersede, and all to present themselves.

While not ecstatic, of course, to find myself without a replacement bottle, I'm neither sad to have enjoyed this last of several bottles of this fine bourbon. If it's the last I'll ever enjoy, it's still better than looking at it on a shelf. Cheers.

Finished the bottle, after all -- covered by diet Big K (Kroger) cola. Some of you will see this as sacrilege. I don't. I happen to know, for example, that SB.com founder and guru Jim Butler uses Booker's and Stagg in bbq sauce. Use the best ingredients to get the best result -- words to live by. The Titans are (as expected, here -- I'm predicting 8-8; I won't be buying playoff tickets) straggling against the Broncos, but I'm salving the disappointment in a good way.

Finished off a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed last night. It's been on my shelf almost finished for a number of months. It had to go to make room for a new bottle of something.

So long to my bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit. It was nice while it lasted, but I don't think the price justifies replacement. I really like the bottle and the nice heavy stopper though. I may attempt a label removal and use it as a decanter for lesser offerings on poker night.

I am extremely sad to say that a fine bottle of Elmer T. Lee gave up it last pour today. I however supemely enjoyed it with another Green Bay victory. Next Thursday nights game should be quite interesting. A bottle of Van Winkle 13 yr Rye should be ready to give up the ghost. But I might just have to honor todays Empty bottle by crackin open a fresh vessel of ETL. GO PACK.

Old Bardstown 10/101 hit the dumpster this evening. Open since the Frankfort Sampler when I shared it with Doug, Roger, Howie and Mary. A fine bottling that saw some good times.

Jon's been on a bourbon cleaning spree. I don't usually get the spring cleaning bug until March....but so far in December, he's emptied the "low" bottles including:

2 WT12's - different bottlings

2 Pappy 23's - different bottlings

Wathens

And Blantons.....Right now he's working on a bottle of Rare Breed.

We had to move the bourbon supply in anticipation of new carpet coming next week.....I don't think he liked moving it and/or the discovery of how many bottles we had open :bigeyes:

One of my very first bottles that I purchased gave its last pour. I W Harper 15 yr BHC will be missed. I don't believe that I will find any more, so I didn't open it for the longest time. Glad I cracked it open! It was very good.

I just poured the last of my 2006 George T Stagg thru a coffee filter to strain out the char.

And now I have an empty bottle that looks so sad or is it me.

Finished off 2 this weekend, 07' Saz18 and Rowan's Creek (12 year age statement). The Saz18 will be missed but the RC... not so much. In it's defense my bottle did not appear to be properly corked and sealed as the cork was only 1/2 - 2/3's the way in when they sealed with the wax/plastic; this was the only bottle I ever had and it had a stale and bitter taste to it.
