After having a pour of the pappy 23 last night, decieded that I needed to compare it to the Pappy 20 that i have been nursing. One nice pour left and just as good as the first...VanWinkle bourbons are the best in my book....

My fair fallen soldier this evening is fairly pedestrian. Its a bottle of WT Rare Breed, which shouldnt be a big deal, I mean I have had several bottles of it in the past.

The thing about it is, it is my LAST BOTTLE OF BOURBON. thats right. I got no more. That is crazy considering the peiople who knew me from my previous SB stint:

My recent empties have been limited: I've been drinking less since I started grad school (no time for whiskey: the horror! Seriously, though, it's been good).

Nevertheless, in the last month, an OC 7/86 proof ran dry. So did Dalmore 12. Nothing else is really even close right now. Of course, since I spread my drinkin' love around, that means they'll all go dry at the same time.

Well, I guess I have to credit the support of fine members of this club for helping me swear off asymptotic drinking.

For those of you who don't remember what an asymptote is, all I mean is that for my really valued bottles I have the habit of pouring smaller and smaller pours each time I drink, in the hopes of extending the life of the bottle indefinitely.

The bottle I was treating this way most recently was Thomas Handy Rye. One of my favorite bottles to which I was loathe to say good-bye. Well, I did it tonight - all 0.25 oz of it.

Polished off a bottle of Fighting Cock 103. Dunno what folks think about this particular bourbon, but at 103 proof, it's very drinkable and one of my favorites to mix with ginger. A good pour at $15.

Currently in state on my home office desk is my first ETL KBS Fourth Barrel bottle. It took me all of one Sunday evening chat with Dave and Timothy to halve it, then a month and a half or so to allow it to die of natural (for me) causes. It is survived by 10 of it's brethren in my bunker and several more gifted to friends, the condition of which is unknown.

An EWSB 1994 has met its end.

This was a very good whiskey, but it took me about half of the bottle to "get it." I finally decided I liked the level of HH mint and the peppery finish was spectacular.

I'd be a little sad (though not too torn up) if I didn't have a 1992 and another 1994 in the bunker.

In what is probably the quickest open to empty that has happened in quite while, a bottle of Blanton's Straight from the Barrel hit the trash tonight. It was just a damn nice bottling, with a good amount of oak and a fine medium body containing fine leather and some tobacco notes. A bit of orange zest can be unearthed as well as some raisin-esque sweetness.

I have heard of this in numerous other posts about these "SB.com verisons" of the VW23. How did you come across them? Any plans for another run in the future? Count me in.

I did finish off the last of the Woodford Reserve. A nice pour of Bourbon, not remarkable but nice.

I was planning on saving this last pour of the 06' WLW for when I get the 07' but I just couldn't wait. It was a good move, I can't think of anything else I'd rather have in the snifter right now.
