Yeah, I had a real good time. Tried a lot of good whiskey. Spent some time with Julian and was able to try Lenell's new Rye. I liked that a lot!!

I had a small pour of this in Bardstown during the Sampler. It was super.

Looks like you had a great time DB. Would you say it was worth the fee? I'm thinking of going to the Chicago Whiskey Fest in the Spring, but am wondering if it's worth it. Nice pics too.

I'd say it was worth it. How many chances do you get to have a glass of whiskey with the guys that make it? Also, it affords you the opportunity to try a lot of things you might not otherwise have the chance to sample. However, after a few different pours it's tough to give a fair judgement.

This was my second time going and I enjoyed it more than the first.

I was also there last night. It was a good show, some great whiskies to sample, a bit overcrowded as compared to WhiskyLive and the Philadelphia Whisky Festival. I introduced myself to Julian and showed him the Good Life magazine article with PVW20 being the most highly rated. It's cool when you can sample some 25 and 30 year old scotches that retail for $300+.

I don't have any pictures though. Oh well.

Yeah, I'd say many of the whisk(e)y 'events' are worth some time, money and effort if you take in some of the peripheral stuff. For example, Joe, if you do Binny's' bash, Twisted Spoke and Delilah's in Chicago, too, it makes for a pretty busy couple of days.

I too was at Whiskey Fest NYC last night. This was the first event like this that I have been too and I wish I had gone the other 2 years I wanted to go. It was well worth the price of admission and I'll defintely be back next year! My only complaint was that it was very crowded once they started letting the general admission people in but it wasn't too bad. There weren't alot of promotional items besides the whiskey itself but some table were giving out glasses, my favorite is the Makers Mark glass. It was really cool talking with the people who make and/or are experts on whiskey, I learned a bit while I was there. I didn't try and of the charity whiskey (I wish I had, wound up getting pickpocketed later on anyway.) but I got some good deals on the Michael Jackson tasting glass, a copy of The Whiskey Bible 2006, and a copy of Bourbon, Straight.

Sorry we all couldn't have met up, I remembered we never picked a place for to meet when I was getting on the train Monday afternoon. Maybe next year.

At your mention of a Maker's Mark glass I was trying to visualize it. All of my renditions turned out to be upside down.

You're right; it is cool-looking. Is it hard to sip around the rivulets?

A sad thing they kept annonucing was that people were stealing bottles from the vendors and if you were caught with a bottle you would be kicked out of the event. Truly sad that people would do that!

Missed WF Chicago in the spring cuz we were in Phoenix and next year we have a party the night of WF--can't believe they're doing it on a Friday in Chicago. Some of my friends and I are thinking of going to NYC next fall.

The Chicago WF gets crowded at general admission time, but the waits are pretty short. Got the MM glass in 2005, the red bottom pulls off so you can toss it in the dishwasher. Got a Knob Creek flask and hat, very useful items. Met the master distiller for Isle of Jura scotch--wearing a kilt; he took us through all of their scotches. We had a group of about 10 guys and went out for steak afterwards--great night.

Just goes to show you people are idiots. Here is a great thing that allows you to meet a lot of really nice people and then a few fools go and put a bad mark on it. Pick pockets and bottle stealers at a whiskey event? Luckily I didn't come across any or there might have been an incident!

Nah, it's not a problem, the drips only really go down 1/2 of the glass, there's not much on the other side. Whether this is by design or if I am just lucky I have no idea.

For the record, so I don't give people the wrong impression about the crowd that attends this event, my pocket was picked (most likely) coming back from a bar one block over by my hotel much later. I defintely had it when I left the fest and the bar or I wouldn't have been able to get my BAC high enough to not know for sure what happened to it. Yup, it's more my fault than anyones. :\ The only real mystery imo is how the hell I got back into my room without the key that was in my wallet!
