tachyonshuggy
Responding to the "Bourbon and Coke?" thread gave me a thread idea: what's the *worst* thing you've ever done w/ bourbon? I'm thinking along the lines of a truly awful Saz (I'm guilty of this), or maybe mixing Distiller's Masterpiece with store-brand cola, or. . .I'll start it off: mixing OGD Bonded with La Croix Berry. Yuck!!!
cowdery
I'll confess to an offense of my own, and recent. After messing around with some bourbon and Coke (Diet Coke at that), I added a dash of some peach liqueur I had. Not recommended.

HighTower
The first time I saw Vanilla COke in a store I had to buy some and I also had to try it with bourbon. What bourbon? It was EWSB, probably 1990 or 1992. They just didn't go. I am a big fan of vanilla coke, and I sometimes mix it with something milder, like Canadian Club classic.Scott

gothbat
I don't really mix my bourbon with anything but once I put 3 ice cubes in a glass of WT101 and it was horrible. Once in a casino I ordered a bourbon and didn't specify neat (I did for all the previous ones), the drink I got had to be like 75% water. It wasn't too bad but it definitely wasn't good either. mythrenegade
I think I finished off my first bottle of ETL by putting it in eggnog. Now, keep in mind, it's great in eggnog, but eggnog is how I got rid of the beam white I bought ten years ago. It doesn't exactly demand high quality bourbon...Joel

bobbyc
I had a bottle of Gold Wax Maker's at 102 proof, yes 102, not 101. Someday someone will show up in Dusty Corner finds with the 102 and we can put that one to rest. At any rate after a few pours neat the rest went in Whiskey Sours, they were good, but since this is close to 30 years ago I would like a sip of that one now. jwrussell
I brought a small bottle of KC with me to a poker game. One of the guys smelled it and commented. I asked him if he was a bourbon drinker and he said, yes. So I told him to help himself. He walked out of the kitchen with a glass of Knob and Coke. Ugh. photogjunkie
That would have to be the night I opened a new bottle...had several...then proceeded to carry the bottle with me outside to the front porch...bad call. Somehow I had forgotten my glass and was too lazy to go back inside for it. Oh well, I'll just take a swig from the bottle. Needless to say...the next day I found that bottle under my chair on the front porch with about an inch left in it. Talk about a hangover from hell. This is my most regrettable bourbon usage.
Ambernecter
Not really Bourbon usage...I remember buying a bottle of JB white as a young lad coming home from a Man United game. I tucked the bottle inside my jacket and was making my way to my mates house. I jumped off a low wall with a loud shout of "UNITED!" only to see the bottle slip out of my jacket and smash on the pavement! I fully admit there were one or two profanities uttered by yours truly.I had no more money as I was just a kid (about 16) and even though it was only JB white, it was a big heart wrenching waste of whiskey! I am comforting myself with a VWFRR as I remember this awful tale!
OscarV
I did not do this, but I had a hand in it.Years ago, 1972 to be exact, I drove down to Alabama to see my Grandparents and other family. My Grandfather asked me one day if I would drive him down to Birmingham to get some liquor, dry county where I'm from, and the counties all around it. I was suprised, since they were hard core fundamentalist, but ofcourse I said no problem let's go.We went into a state store and he got a bottle of bourbon, I don't remember what kind. Then we went to Katfish King and he sprung for dinner. The next day, my Grandfather went out back and dug up some ginsing root and put it in the bottle of bourbon. He placed it on the mantle and said in a week he would have some good medicine.

ggilbertva
Actually, this is not a regrettable bourbon usage story but rather a lack thereof. I was in Zimbabwe on business and went into the hotel bar after work one evening. The barkeep came over to our table and took our order. I asked for Jim Beam/Coke. After taking an initial sip of my drink I realized something was wrong and asked him "Jim Beam Coke?" He shook his head and said "Yes! JB Coke!". Oops. I tried to clarify Jim Beam not J&B. He didn't understand. Long story short, I went behind the bar with him and dug through the bottom cabinet and located a dusty bottle of Jim Beam in the very back of the cabinet. Thereafter every night, the barkeep would hollar out when I cam in "Jim Beam Coke!" I'd flash him a smile and thumbs up. Proactive drinking.
