Empty Glass
A keel-haulable offense occured on my riverboat, Jubilee, this summer that I would like to share with you on this great forum. I was told that talking about it helps with my therapy. I offer a 3 liter oak cask of fine spirits for my pleasure and the pleasure of my passengers who wish to enjoy a toast with the Captain. I had just topped it off for the 3 hr. tour around the lake. After the doctor and his staff disembarked I noticed a little amber river running across the table, onto the deck and over the side. It appeared that one of the guests (a trained medical proffessional) had trouble with the little pet-cock that dispenses God's nectar from its container and left it in the open position after pouring a shot. I can only guess that the remainder of the guests did not remember the lefty-loosey, righty-tighty quip and left the keg running on the table until it was empty. It's been several months and I don't...almost never tear up anymore thinking about it. I guess I shared our favorite beverage with the trout. On warm evenings there is still a wonderful aroma of an old friend wafting from the bilge.
fog
I once tried bourbon in oragne juice. :puke: I have tried bourbon in milk, and I did not think that it was as bad as mentioned earlier in this thread. Conceptually, it seems similar to eggnog, which is not considered abnormal.

The friend's mother came only to find her son throwing up the horrific stuff all over the top bunk. :slappin:
TnSquire
Back in the day a buddy and I obtained a pint of Beam and drank it on the way to a party. Our method was pass the bottle back and forth and chase it with Mt. Dew. We killed the pint in 20 minutes. The results resembled egg yolks. Ah the days! Empty Glass
My wife's cousin, Richie, diluted his toast pour of EWSB96 with apple juice from my kids juice box... I didn't let him have anymore.
cowdery
I don't remember how it happened, but I broke my first-ever bottle of Old Fitzgerald. I was living in Louisville at the time. A friend who was an ex-Fitzgerald employee--and still a loyal consumer--said that it was the best bourbon. (It was all still made at Stitzel-Weller at that time.) I soon bought a bottle and somehow broke it, all over the floor of my car. Tragic, but it did make the car smell good for a few weeks.

Edward_call_me_Ed
Here is the thread,http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4129&highlight=bourbon+apple+juiceI didn't see any reference to tradition. So, I might have imagined that, or I might have read it somewhere else.Ed
shoshani
If I recall correctly, a lot of the old time bourbon drinkers drank Bourbon with apple juice. There was a thread about it a while back. There is only one circumstance under which I have ever mixed bourbon with anything else, and while I found the results pleasing enough it is certainly not something I would do every day. In fact, it's been years since I've done it, but here you go: One day (about twenty years ago) while nosing, I made the discovery that, for whatever reason, both the aroma and flavor of Old Forester BIB and Barq's Root Beer had a peculiar affinity for each other. There was a thread about it a while back. That's because they could then considered it a breakfast drink and not get evil looks from there wives. You're right, there is some compatibility there. JOE
