fog
ETL and Eagle Rare 10 year are described similarly. How would you compare them? Which do you prefer?
bluesbassdad
I enjoy both. The spicy flavor of ETL often invites another glass. The sweet, cognac-like flavor of Eagle Rare 10 y/o is more like dessert. One is usually enough.Yours truly,Dave Morefield
jburlowski
Both are very, very good. I picked ETL because it's a better value and has never disappointed me.
NYtaster
I enjoy both but I voted for the Eagle Rare because it stands out from my usuals more that the ETL, although I probably drink more of the ETL lately.Tim
FlashPuppy
For me, ETL is a hands down winner. I am not sure what it is, but ER SB 101 is to alcoholy (?) for me.
wskybnt
Very tough call, but ETL got my vote. Good comparison, I like both a lot. And both stay stocked but the slight, slight edge goes to ETL....
Sweetmeats
Elmer T. Lee will always be my favorite. It was my first and holds a special place in my heart. :sniff:
Edward_call_me_Ed
For me, ETL is a hands down winner. I am not sure what it is, but ER SB 101 is to alcoholy (?) for me.Is that a typo? The ER SB isn't 101 proof, but 90.I have to vote ETL. I have only had one bottle of the ER SB but maybe twenty or more bottles of ETL. I would have had more ER SB but for the fact that it is about ten bucks more. Also, I much prefered the old ER 101 to the one bottle of ER SB that I have had and I still have a fair amount of that stashed. Not as much as I would like, but a fair amount.Ed
Empty Glass
I enjoyed ETL much more on an initial comparison with the ER and sent the ER off with a friend who liked it better.
FlashPuppy
Is that a typo? The ER SB isn't 101 proof, but 90.Thanks for pointing out my gross error. It is the 90 proof I meant.
highlife
I prefer the ETL over the ER, however that is only after finishing 1 bottle of each.
camduncan
I can't vote as I'm yet to try either. (they're on my list of 'to buy')From all of the tasting notes I've read, I'd have to say ETL sounds like the one I'd prefer :skep:
Chaz7
I don't care fort the licorice (or should I say "liquorice") notes on the ER. So my vote was firmly planted on ETL. BTW, ER was once 101 proof; but not the SB I don't believe.

lar03
Is that a typo? The ER SB isn't 101 proof, but 90.EdI have only had one bottle of the ER SB, but the one thing I do remember is that it had more heat, and more alcohol taste than I was accustomed to at the time. Of course I was also drinking it next to EW SB, and it was the most expensive bottle of Bourbon I had ever purchased up to that point. Which is to say that I was still a relative virgin. I can't vote, since my state does not sell ETL, and I have yet to try it, but I will be giving the ER SB another shot in the near future.
Ambernecter
Both are quality drops no question...I voted for ETL in a heartbeat though - I've drunk alot of this stuff in the last 3 years or so and it's always been SUPER!! There is a sweetness/smoothness in ETL that really hits the spot for me every time. After the struggle of breaking the wax seal on ETL it's all good... Brennan77
I don't know if it's just the bottle I got a hold of, or if it's the change in my palate. But the last 2 bottles of ETL (gold wax) have been way too sweet for me. I think it's a good pour, but it's almost syrupy at times. I voted ER but I've been sipping on a barrel program selection bottle, so it may not be representative of the usual product.

I can not locate the post right now, but I know Elmer has been quoted on the selecion process.
Father&Son
I enjoy both. The spicy flavor of ETL often invites another glass. The sweet, cognac-like flavor of Eagle Rare 10 y/o is more like dessert. One is usually enough. Yours truly, Dave Morefield I agree with Dave. Both are excellent pours, but I prefer the more luxuriant mouth feel of ETL to ER. To my tastes, ERSB has a lighter body that is less satisfying than ETL. Having said that, however, I'd gladly raise a glass of ER to toast our differences.

mythrenegade
For me Eagle Rare 10yo is the hands down winner. I do quite like ETL though. You really can't go wrong with either drink.Joel
Nash
I had to go with ETL but I enjoy ER as well. ETL has a multi faceted flavor in my opinion. ER is a good pour but has only two sides, a clean sweet start and a slightly dry medium length finish. There are times when I want something simpler than my usual choices and ERSB fits perfectly.
