Brennan77
I'm finally seeing these in New Orleans but I just can't bring myself to buy them.
jwrussell
Doubt I'll ever even see any of these, but what are they running out of curiousity?
MikeK
The BT press release mentioned an expected MSRP of about $93 for the pair. The actual price seems to vary quite a bit depending on how generous or greedy the middlemen are feeling. My store told me he was giving them to me at his cost - $90. I have heard of them going for well over $100.

Brennan77
· Hidden Hidden Maybe I can give you a reason to buy a set.I know a guy in Michigan who would give them a good home. PM me if you'd seriously like to work something out. The big problem is shipping, as it's strictly against the law. I have no idea how you'd get the bottles with the exception of coming to New Orleans, which wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. It's a good time and we need the visitors (and their money). They're going for $49.99/bottle. Link to comment
kpendle
I just got these delivered today. Saw them available and after a week of thinking about it I went ahead and got them. Has anyone else sighted any in CA? Mine were from the Bay Area. I was hesitant to get them as it was more than I have ever paid for something like that but I finally gave in. I guess it could be classified as an impulse buy. I was actually skeptical when I saw them for sale and even more so after a week and they were still available. I will admit I actually just stumbled across them and they would not have been easily spotted. I am not even sure they ever actually went on a shelf at the place they came from. I was not a true believer until I actually opened the box and saw they were for real. I expect they will end up at a West Coast Study Group in the future.Ken
Pappy's Friend
Where'd you find them? I'm also in the Bay Area. Also, if you don't mind, what did you pay?
kpendle
I will not say publicly but I will divulge the information at the West Coast Study group. But it did come from a retailer in Bay Area. If I said anymore it would be easy for anyone to figure out. I prefer to keep the information within our study group so that we have the best shot in the future. The price I paid was 104.49 plus tax.You gotta hit the study group with us. The last time barring the one little hiccup was an exceptional session. With a handle of Pappy's Friend you would have been in Pappy Heaven.Ken
Pappy's Friend
I'm trying to make it to the next one. I was torn last month, we had visitors who don't drink much. I love Pappy Heaven - sounds like a great place!!You've now given me more incentive to show up at the next study group!!!
mier
It sounds very promising,i tried a Austrian Whiskey that was matured in Trockenbeerenauslese and Chardonnay, it had a very strange but pleasant taste.Looking forward to trt BT!
Brennan77
I had the good fortune of trying these after dinner in a local restaurant. I thought both were very good. Perhaps I was prejudiced by the great food and wine I had already had that evening. Both whiskeys were very well composed, nicely balanced, with a definite fruit quality that interacted well with the usual aspects of bourbon. The younger was lighter and more easily liked in all aspects. That said, the older whiskey, while more difficult and dense, was IMO more rewarding. Overall I'm glad I tasted them. Are they worth the price of admission at $50/375ml? I don't know. But they're definitely unique and competent.
bigtoys
Just got the older version "by accident"; was shopping for some Pappy and the spirit guy recognized me and told me he had something special to try behind the counter. He had 2 bottles. I said I'd take it and asked him if he had tried it. He hadn't, so I said, "Let's open it here and have a taste." Which we did. He wasn't thrilled; he likes a woodier taste, but definitely appreciated the taste. It's got a little cherry fruit on the nose. Smooth, no harsh bite. I wish my "nose" skills were better. I recognize things, but can't name them. Frustrating. Anyway, no regret about paying $60 for 375 ml. I'll drink it sparingly with friends for a treat. I'm enjoying another taste now; had to pull out a Reidel glass. Will post some pix later. I wonder if I should pick up the second bottle after reading about prior BTEC's here on SB and the rarity of these. Cowdery even got into a little battle with someone over something I missed.
