The old Lockes Distillery in Kilbeggan is reopening and producing on a small scale again. This is great news, of course. Now there are four distilleries in Ireland.

Tis great news, especially since I drive through Kilbeggan when going from my wifes home house to her sisters! Now I have a place to stop, besides Mother Hubbards of course.

Is this the same Kilbeggan distillery that was more or less stillborn a couple of years ago?

No matter what, good luck to them!

I'm glad to hear that - the Irish whiskey industry sure took its lumps in the 20th Century. Now the question is, how long will it take for their product to hit the store shelves?

No, that was the Coola Mills distillery. I think that project was headed up by someone originally involved in the Kilbeggan Museum.

The Kilbeggan distillery has been there since 1758. It closed in the 1950s, but hasn't changed much since. Nearly all the equipment is still there. Cooley run it as a museum and a place to mature its stock. Now they're switching it on again.

I'm not sure when they'll release their first stock, but at least 3 yrs, needless to say.
